Lift Kits Once Again
Lift Kits Once Again
Not very knowledgable on lift kits so please bear with me....I've got some questions......
-I wanna put a 6" lift on my truck but not sure which one is best. I've heard a lot of good things about Fabtech but, I'm just not sure. I'd rather spend the $$$ and get quality, if you know what I mean. Recommendations?
-I stopped by my local offroad shop today and got a price on a complete 6" Fabtech Coilover lift kit....seemed kinda pricey....$2600+tax+installation. He did say that he would cut me a deal because they are a fairly new shop and had not done an '04 F150 yet (in exchange for my word-of-mouth advertising). There has got to be a better deal out there somewhere.
-I've also read on some of the different forums that some people have the suspension AND the body lifts at the same time....why???
-It seems that some kits come with shocks and some don't but, at the same time some people say that the shocks that come in a lot of these kits aren't all that good and you're better off going with Bilstein or some other top quality shock.....Recommendations?
Decisions, Decisions......

Fabtech has an excellent reputation, especially with their Ford lifts which seem to be their speciality. I'm not sure what the Fabtech kit retails for. Because the new Fords use a coilover shock, some kits come with replacement coilovers, and some come with spacers and use the existing coilover shocks. I know the Fabtech comes with a replacement coilover shock. However, I read somewhere that Fabtech now has an optional, adjustable coilover shock as an option on their kit. Make sure which front coilover shock is being used in the price of your kit. I know the standard ProComp kit comes with spacers for your coilovers, but they offer an optional adjustable coilover shock at additional cost. Whatever you decide, compare prices at different shops. As far as combing suspension lifts and body lifts, people simply do it for increased height and tire clearance.
i am cerious abou the 6 inch suspention lift with 3 inch body lift and why hasnt been done yet. It could bring this f150 up to big boy level! Im waiting for more responce and some wird of mouth from someone that dose it
I have the Stage 1 6" ProComp and I love it. I have heard that Stage two rides pretty rough but likely performs better off road. I got a 6" lift, 18" evo's and 34" BFG AllTerrains for around $5000 installed.
I think you can do better and I have heard great things about the $" Rancho Lift!
Good luck

In my humble opinion:
I rate the 3 lifts as follows:
1) Rancho
2) Fabtech
3) Procomp
If you are going to do off roading I would go with chioices 1 or 2. #1 gets installed on my truck tomorrow
I chose Rancho because it just looks like a more refined and better engineered setup. The front is a single piece and has a high arch design in the middle, following exactly the original front cross member design. It seems more sturdy and the shocks that come with their kit are adjustable. I plan on doing off roading and was more interested in performance than looks.
The only thing missing is a speedo recalibrator which I'm told something should arrive in the next couple months.

If you are NOT planning on doing a lot of off-roading my humble opinion is: Although I don;t think you would regret any of these. They are all solid kits.

"Kit Requires Welding, Drilling, Cutting. Call for Installation!"
Don't like that idea at all....
I spoke with the guys at National Tire and Wheel, as well as the techs at 4wheelparts.com and was told by both to go with the ProComp lift and then upgrade to the stage 2 if I thought I needed it. I asked why they reccomended that lift over Rancho and Fabtech and they simply said its been out the longest, they like the install of the lift (went in the easiest) and is a very quality construction. They did say the Rancho, Skyjacker and Fabtech were great lifts but more tuned for heavy offroading much like the Stage 2 and will definitley make for a rougher ride and a lot more money. I have been swaying back and forth between lifts as well but since I only offroad maybe 1 time a month I am going with the less expensive Procomp since its the most popular lift on the new trucks with no problems so far, not to mention the $700 less than the other two. My only deal is it doesnt have a skid plate, but that should be out soon.
Amen Eddy - well stated. I think the "best" lift is subjective and can only be determined by analyzing the buyers need. The ProComp was definately best for my needs - as I off-road about 5% of the time.
