Problem with truck reviews...
I wonder why companies who test/review new vehicles dont go in-depth for all models.
For instance, you rarely see 0 to 60mph, 1/4 mile times for the vehicles. Especially trucks nowadays due to the increased demand for racing trucks. Atleast modifying them.
Then, if they do post 0 to 60 mph, 1/4 mile times and so on, it is for the biggest, longest 4x4 model out there.
I would have preferred they reviewed all models. From the heaviest 4x4 to the lightest 4x2. All gear ratios and so on. Actual curb weight for all too. I struggled to find the curb weight for my Reg. Cab 4x2 5.4 L 3.73 LS. I chose the lightest truck with the biggest engine, lowest gears...etc.
I have yet to find 1/4 mile or 0 to 60 reviews on this type. Or even the Reg Cab period. I have driven the SCREW, SCAB models and they ride totally different than the Reg. Cab models and are much heavier. I just think if they are going to do it, they should go very much in depth.

I don’t think they give in depth ¼ mile, 0 to 60, etc. reviews on trucks because they are marketed as work vehicles. Most of those reviews are reserved for sports cars. Some people add mods but quite a few truck owners don’t. I didn’t buy my truck thinking it was going to be racecar fast, it weights to much. If you search around this sight, you’ll see some ¼ mile times usually with a list of the mods installed.

The new engine has VCT, 3 valves per cylinder and is not even close to it's full potential with being de-tuned.
Also, last year you couldnt get the 5.4 L in a Reg Cab short bed XL(you were forced to upgrade). I only purchased my truck this year because I could order it to those specs. When I aksed the dealer why they chose to allow it, he said because of the demand for sport trucks.
My truck does pretty well running 9.95 in the 1/8th @71mph with just exhaust. It does depend on the weight and model of the truck. But, I dont have anyway to clock the 0 to 60 accurately. I dialed it in at 7 seconds flat on my video camera adjusting for the following: 1. Looking at the counter and trying to see when the speedometer starts to move at the same time 2. The speedometer starts at 10mph on these trucks. So, it doesnt move until after it reaches 10mph. So, very inaccurate.
But, it might be a bit faster than that or a bit slower by a tenth of a sec or so. I am curious to know what the tests provided. Also, it would be helpful for consumers to view this info prior to purchase.
Truck Trend in their "Road Test Review" section(July/Aug 2004) shows 0-60 in 8.4 seconds for a Lariat 5.4 2 wheel drive. The latest Consumer Reports showed 8.2 seconds 0-60 if memory serves me.
