Exclamation Steering wheel shake & mud

The other day I was wheeling in the mud and hit the highway afterwards and the truck had a VIOLENT shake to it. I stopped to check what I had broken, everything was tight and straight. There was a little mud on the inside of my steel XL rims, so I wiped then out and problem solved!. I am aware from previous trucks of what mud in the rims do to cause shake but this was VERY LITTLE mud. A fine line on balancing with these tires I guess?? Could be the cause of some first noticed shakes by others??

A good ½ or ¼ pound hunk of muck can definitely mess things up! What's your definition of 'a little mud'? A hand full? A ½" coating?

It had about a 1/4" of mud on the inside of the front rims, I guess the larger tires on this truck as compared to the 16" on my ranger may account for the difference in shake? I would much rather be shaking down the road with mud packed rims in spacious comfort than go back to the Ranger though!!

The more responsive your steering is, the more you're going to feel stuff like this.
I'd rather have tight, responsive steering and deal with mud, etc... than to have loose steering.
