Anyone have Paint Problems

The other day I got done washing my truck and to my surprise on the passenger side, above the rear wheel well I have 3 bubbles. They are very small bubbles but the paint is definately bubbled. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. I also noticed my front chrome bumper has some issues on one side of it also. It has a blurry mirror finish to it. Anyone else out there with these issues.

Funny that you brought this up, mine is in the shop for a 3" (yes, inch) run in the clear coat. Honestly, I can't believe this got past Ford's QC.

But yes, I have also noticed 3 or so small fisheyes in the paint in various locations. Can't say that I'm pleased, but IMO the fix would be worse than just living with it.

I have a small wart on the roof close to the windshield. Not sure what to make of it. It doesn't look like an air bubble. Looks like a small paint chunk that got stuck and solidified. I'm going to wait and see what happens.

where was your truck made?

I'm just wondering if maybe the new Dearborn assembly plant has some issues.

Had a major color difference on the lower portion of the rear passenger door... almost looked like the door had been repainted... I didn't notice the color difference until a week after I picked up the truck and washed it... Ford stepped up to the plate and fixed it, looks great now...

Truck is from KC.

I have some very small defects in the paint, looks like some dirt got caught up here and there, but very hard to see on my 04 FX4 Screw.

My 00 XLT Scab had a lot of these, including some noticeable orange peal on the driver's door and a very small "fish eye" on the passenger side bed!

These trucks are heavily mass produced and large vehicles, and unfortunately, they will probably have more paint defects than your typical mid-sized car.

I don't think they are any more produced than a car.

60 vehicles an hour is 60 vehicles an hour, no matter what they are (or whatever the hourly production run is)

I don't see why the paint should be inferior to a mid-sized car.On a $40,000 truck, I think it reasonable to expect a better paint job than a $15,000 Focus

I see your point J-F150. I paid $32,000 for my 04’ FX4 ($38,500 MSRP), and agree the paint quality should be better for a vehicle in that price range!

My Subaru WRX has a flawless finish, hardly any orange peel, and no dirt in the paint. I can't help but think that the fact the F150 is the best selling vehicle in the U.S. (World for that matter) doesn’t somehow contribute to the amount of paint defects they allow it to have, since they push so many out the factory every day.

Also, I think it may be easier to get less defects painted on a smaller vehicle than a larger vehicle, just by the shear amount of real estate your painting robots need to cover per vehicle without a defect!

I will check where mine came from tomorrow. I will probably take mine to ford next week, but at the same time I think I should just deal with it until it gets worse.

I just traded in my 2002 Eddie Bauer Explorer on an F150 for this exact same reason. My Explorer was black and beige just like your truck. I had terrible paint problems with it. Bubbles and then actual cracking. Looked like thousands of spider webs all over the hood. Be on the look out, I think Ford has a problem with their black paint.

I have a 2 inch run in the paint on the back of the truck under the brake light, passenger side.

Haven't really looked the truck over for any defects so there may be more.

I had the same run on my 2000 XLT Scab (also KC plant). It turned out to be a clear coat run, which a detailer easily buffed out. I was afraid they had to repaint it because it looked like the run was the pigment coat!

Sometimes they spray the clear coat really thick and they don’t get it polished out completely. You may want to try buffing the run out first; hopefully it’s just a clear coat run and will come right out.

Two weeks ago I was waxing my white Lariat Screw and noticed about the passenger side tail light, the paint looks thin, almost like you can see through the white.

I've got an '04 SCREW T-Red. The paint seems paper thin. It scratches as soon as anything even remotely brushes against the truck.

Is anyone else having this problem??
