front window problems
Is anyone else getting a lot of gunk on the inside of their front windows? Both of mine have gummy streaks on them at the bottom right in the middle. It looks like *****...
What is this and is there a fix?
Thanks

Mine is getting this black looking gummy stuff on the inside of the window. Almost looks like Butyl. I've just been keeping them clean with window cleaner but have no idea why it is happening. You'll roll the window down a bit and drive somewhere, roll the windows up and there it is. Weird!
Might have something to do with heat and the sun. Here in SD, it is sunny just about every day of the year and when we had a heat wave a month or two back, it did it on both windows. Just washed my truck about an hour ago and it did not have any on the window this time and it's been in the mid 70's

I have that problem, was hoping it would "go away" over time, but have had the truck since Jan. and still get the grease marks.
I was thinking of taking it in, but don't like the idea of them taking the door panels off, with my luck, they would never be the same and start rattleling. I just keep cleaning them.

No gunk. But I have noticed that when it's really cold, the window seems to struggle to go up. It works much better in the warm weather.

nick2004,
I have the same gunk just like you described. I clean it off with a little alcohol and hope it doesn't ruin my window tint.
I'm like anaheim ("I was thinking of taking it in, but don't like the idea of them taking the door panels off, with my luck, they would never be the same and start rattleling.")

If it's any conselation, i've had my door panels off several times but never looked into see what it was. The first few times I noticed this, I had figured it was something my old lady was dong. Apparently it's something deep in the door or just on the scraper. Mine is always like 4" from the bottom of the window up. I never see it at the top of the glass.
Just got the gunk problem fixed. Had the dealer remove the door panels to find the problem. The plastic housing that carries the cable (they don't use the metal scissors any more) to move the window up and down has some kind of gummy tape in a few places. This would rub against the window when it was down. If it is warm out it smears. The mechanic just zip tied the cable to the inside door frame to keep it away from the glass. No more gunk.
A special note for those trying to fix it. There is a heavy plastic water shield on the doors inside, with some real sticky stuff to hold it on. You actually have to use a razor to cut the sticky stuff. Pull out the plaastic a little and cut the adhesive. It will rebond with itself when you are done. You only need to open up the bottom middle third of the plastic liner. From there you will see the white plastic cable surround.
Hope this helps.

FYI........I use a product called "Goo Gone". It works great and better than anything else I have tried. I took the gunk off in a couple of seconds with it. You can pick it up at Wal-Mart, Target....etc.
