'04 5.4L fuel consumption?

Edit: you guys can disregard this post because a member referred me to the long thread from "Mikebaby"last April. Thanks. BTW, this newbie loves the community!

Original post: I'm getting the 5.4L Regular Cab 2WD with the lowest gears available (higher RPM for same road speed, 3.73 ratio). FYI the 5.4L is an all-new 3-valve, not a carryover.

I will do about 65% freeway commuting around 70mph or a bit faster but not much, 35% city with moderately hard acceleration. Re-thinking & considering the freeway commuting, maybe I should just get the standard gears. But occassional hard launches are such fun in a big truck!

What do the oracles here project for the above truck's fuel consumption rate? EPA stats on the Morroni sticker are 15MPG city, 19MPG freeway.

I really appreciate your consideration to minimize shock when I check the fuel consumption on a calculator!

I've been a Chevy guy till now, but I just love the '04 F150s short wheelbase/regular cab 4-door.

I easily get 18 or 19 at 70 mph on flat highway with my '04 5.4L 4x4 supercab with 3.73 gears. However, I normally only see around 15 mpg average because I tend to drive faster (80 on highway and heavy on the gas on backroads).

Here is my insensative answer to this common question. It is a truck with a big freakin V8 in it. It is not going to get the gas mileage a riced out Honda Civic is going to get. There is a 2 to 3 mile per gallon difference between the 4x4 and 4x2 version. This is not that big of a deal. When it is all said and done, it is a truck...they all get less than ideal gas mileage.

Good luck on what ever truck you get. They are all quite useful.

Maybe a 4x2 regular cab might even do a tiny bit better than your 4x4 Supercab (same motor). Thanks for the encouragment!

Hey, we're talking good ole' regular grade fuel, right?

Funny thing: for my '04 Supercharged Monte Carlo, Chevy states "Premium Only" on the fuel cap. But I filled with mid-grade & the mileage improved! I tried mid-grade because AutoWeek has a long-term Mazda RX-8, which Mazda states requires premium. AW reported that someone said MPG improved on mid-grade. And whadaya know? It worked on my Chevy. Whoopee!

I'm a newbie here, & so far you guys have a great community.

Pep:
I know it ain't no rice burner, but I'd never drive a car made from WWII shells anyway! I own a Tahoe & owned a 5.3L Silverado, so I generally know what to expect. Thanks.
