Anybody get the dealer to add better tires?

When I bought my 2002 Suburban, the dealer agreed to install Michelin tires and I paid the difference between them and the crappy stock tires. I'm getting ready to order my 2005 F-150 and was wondering if anyone has done it with Ford?

Also, would 285/70's fit on a stock 2 wheel drive?

I did, was part of the "deal". I had them put on the BFG 18" ATs.

Yes, this was a Ford dealer, and yes I know BFG says 8" rim where the stock FX4 rim is only 7.5" before someone chimes in, my Ford dealer is also a BFG dealer, and they saw no problem with putting them on.

Nice looking truck there 51. What size are those BFGs? Are they the 285/65s?

I don't see where 1/2" would hurt anything , in fact a narrower wheel may just help protect the sidewalls when off road . I was involved with a class 8 off road truck that ran the Mint 400 back in the early 80's . We used BFG 12:50's on a 7" wheel with great results .

I hate Michelins, they eat up the bead on alloy rims. Michelin may own BFG, but I've never seen BFG's eat up the alloy. I tend to stick with BFG, Goodyear, or Nitto.

Mine came with Goodyears. I saw no reason to change them. Only thing that would prompt me to change them would be "Firestone" written on them somewhere, and I doubt you'll see a Firestone on a new Ford vehicle anytime soon.

They are the LT285/65R18s...at the time the only 18" All Terrain T/As that BFG made in the 18" size.

The reason why I went into the speel about 8" vs 7.5" rims...this has been the topic of discussion and disagreement among board members, including up to people stating how if you got in an accident, the insurance company could use the fact you mounted tires that called for an 8" rim minimum on a 7.5" rim as grounds to get out of paying for the accident if it involved any loss of control for involvement in the accident.

Since it was a Ford Dealer who is also a BFG dealer who put these tires on, and I trust their judgement...if they felt fine putting them on, then I feel fine driving around with them.
