single cd to 6 disc swap

I just purchased a 6 disc changer to to replace the single cd player. I installed it this weekend but the cd player doesn't work, the radio does. Does anyone know if both of the wiring harnesses have to be pluged in for the cd player to work. I only pluged up the largest one on the left left side of the unit.

The boys over in the audio forums would know better... plus, you *might* wanna be more specific. Did you replace the Ford HU with the in-dash 6-disc Ford HU or an aftermarket? Call me crazy, but I think if you unplugged two things, then two things should be plugged back in! Good luck!

Yep, I replaced it with a ford factory headunit and my single cd player had only one harness pluged into it. But I will give the audio forum a try.

there are two ...

different styles of 6 cd stereos. One is Pioneer ( yellow led lights )
the other audiophile ( green led lights ) i recently bought a ' 04
reg cab xlt and had the clock on my pioneer one crap out on me and the darned thing was so new they didn't even have a replacement one available yet so instead of my having to ride around with a big whole in my dash they had one of the lot men go get a Lariet s cab out of the yard and swapped that with mine.
the one that originally was in my rig had two harnesses ( both plugged in ) and the audiophile one they swapped with me had three harnesses ( the one on the far left was not in use ) i asked what it was for they say for adding an amp or bigger cd changer.
but two harnesses must be hooked up if you've got two. ( i don't know how many where in your rig with the single cd player but two must be rigged for the six...... ) hope that helps....

There was only one harness pluged into the single cd player. Shouldn't the there be a second harness hide up in all the wires in the dash?

i'm not sure ???

if the single cd player had two plug ins on the back then there might be another set of wires pushed in there somewhere otherwise i'm afraid i'm at a loss. i would think there would be that option made available by ford for a swap like that... ??

The 6 disk changer has 2 plugs on the back, but only the big plug gets used. The smaller plug does not get used.
