Question Dealer Pressure

Can a dealer force you to pick your factory order off the lot? I just needed to wait a week or so to see if the cash back rebates increase but the sales manager is having a royal fit saying he's losing money having it sit there. Am I in jeopardy of losing my deposit? I don't like being bullied which is one reason why I'm not rushing in to make the trade-in (after the crooks reappraised my trade-in from what they originally quoted back when I placed the order for the new one - they decided to stick it to me).

Tell them that you can't possibly make it in to pick it up before "desired date here" and don't feel bad about it especially after they screwed you on the trade in. Let them lose money having it sit there (if its even true) that is their problem. My dealer held my factory order for a week for me so I could try and sell my old truck myself, and I did. The only thing they can do to force you is to threaten to sell it to someone else, if they do, you say you will make such a stink about it to everyone you know they suffer major reputation damage.

Your first mistake was leaving a deposit. A deposit is not required when you order.

If you have not exceeded the date you said you would pick it up, I can see waiting. Another option though is to ask for a price match for 30 days to protect yourself against missing new rebates, and incentives.

Aren't you the same guy that was complaining that it took
11 weeks to get your truck? When mine comes in I'm running
to the dealer to pick it up!

Guigster - Nice pics of those Garden State dings and dents in your gallery. Anyone that's been there knows that driving in NJ is risky business. The highest insurance prices in the land.

Chilpad - I bet you'll also pay what the dealer quotes quotes you. Crazy Canucks.

Thanks to those of you who posted useful and intellegent comments. Tpeterson, have you ever gotten a "price match" and if so how does it work?

TanScab - My dealer offered it. Basically it is like a price lock for x number of days.

Try this:

Cheezy salesperson at dealer: "So TanScab, we have been back and forth several times now, what will it take for us to get this deal done"?

Experienced Negotiator TanScab:
Silence..... More silence.....

Cheezy salesperson at dealer: (sweats)
Let me introduce you to my manager!

Super Cheezy Sales Manager at Dealer:
Hi TanScab! how's Alan treating you? boy we sure are trying hard to get this done for you.

Experienced Negotiator TanScab
Try harder.

Sales Manager - We might have another truck with less options on it. Alan go check the lot.

Experienced Negotiator TanScab
No. I know what I want and perhaps I need to look elsewhere for it.

Super Cheezy Sales Manager at Dealer:
Why not sign the deal here and if you can find a better deal we'll match it.

Experienced Negotiator TanScab
For how long will you match it after I sign?

Super Cheezy Sales Manager at Dealer:
1 week.

Experienced Negotiator TanScab
Do prices change that often? Why not three weeks?

Super Cheezy Sales Manager at Dealer:
2 weeks?

Experienced Negotiator TanScab
Done!

I better rehearse my lines! That script was better than most sitcoms or infomercials on tv.

I made my deal when I ordered my truck. SCAB XLT 5.4
3.73 ls, power captain chairs, etc. Got $5,000.00 off list.
$33,200.00 CAN. That's about $24,200.00 US. I bet that's
alot less than you'll be paying. Silly New Yorker. By the way
it's intelligent.

You're so right! Pssst, by the way it's "a lot" two words. I won't tell anyone you made a boo boo. Pay attention in class, son.

hey now, watch it! That script was hilarious, the silent treatment works wonders on sales people like that.

We went through the BS the salesman and sales manager threw at us last week , thanked them and walked out ! My wife felt pity for the "poor newbie salesman " working so hard to make a deal and us rudely walking out . It was like the good cop- bad cop method of interagation you see on TV . I told her to wait and see what happens , sure enough I get the call that the mean 'ol sales manager just authorized some more incentives that would save us more money. Sound familiar?
