airraid intake
airraid intake
How many off you guys are having problems with the airraid intakes. I already ordered one. If too many people are having problems i might send back. Also I tried to clear dtc on my 04 fx4 and the generic obdII tester would not communicate. Is there another way to clear the light?
I had problems with this intake and I finally just removed it and sent it back for a refund based on what Airaid told me. I sent an e-mail to Airaid and they responded that they know there is an issue with a percentage of there intakes and that there engineers are trying to correct the problem. Airaid sent me there MIT kit with a filter that goes into the stock intake free of charge because of all these issues. If you look at K&N and AF1 they are still in R&D because of the issue's that are triggering the eng light on our trucks. I am being told that AF1 should be out in about another month. I think Airaid jumped the gun on this and should of spent more time testing. Now I know some guys have had good luck with this Intake so I guess it's just how sensitive your PCM is. If I was you I would try to send it back for a refund and wait for the AF1.
I agree with Black Lariat in that you should wait. I thought it was suspicious that the other manufactureres were taking longer even though I have not had any issues. I was just lucky I guess because when I made up my mind to get it there was no stopping me. I will probably buy one of the others just for comparison when they come out.
When I first installed the unit I had the dreaded "check engine soon" light! Rather than bore the site by repeating the steps I went through - you can search under my name and find the post. The light has NOT reilluminated in 5,000 miles! I like the system!!
Put my Airraid on, along with the Poweraid throttle body spacer. Only a few days so far, but no problems. It is a pain to install right (just getting it seated right)
I say go for it. If you want to wait for something perfect, just die now, its the only perfect thing in life.

Here is a copy of the response that Airaid sent to me. If the manufacturer admits they have a problem then it is probably a good thing to wait but to each is own. Like I said some guys are not having this problem and others are. I just happen to be one of the unlucky ones. I am hoping the AF1 performs like they are saying plus it looks really good with the stainless tube.
Rick,
Thank you for your inquiry. We are getting a small percentage of these systems that are getting the engine light that will not turn off. It seems the 02 sensors in the new F-150's are very sensitive and are causing this 'lean' issue. For these people experiencing this problem we are offering them a tube and filter replacement. This type of setup known as an AirAid JR will still give you gains of 12hp and 18 ft/lbs of torque compared to your stock setup. You would need to return your intake to stock as this is a OEM replacement filter and requires the original air box. This offer is of course at no charge to you. You have the option of returning the kit for a full refund at the point of purchase. Our engineers are currently looking at some changes to the system to get around this specific issue. Please reply with your mailing address, phone number, and point of purchase and I can go ahead and get this processed for you.
Sincerely,
Jason
