Speaker Question

Hello Everyone,

I have been browsing all the threads and I appreciate everyones feed back on everything. I have an 04 XLT supercab and am trying to figure out how to remove the back door speaker grills. I pryed on them but was afraid I would break them and I really didn't want to do that. I did change out the front speakers by prying on them and it was very simple. Any details someone could share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm sure someone here can help you, but when I need info like that I just stop in at my friendly Ford dealer and ask. They have always been happy to help me.

I haven't actually done the speaker swap...yet. But it was always my impression that the entire door panel needed to come off. I pryed off the speaker cover in my previous SUV and turns out it wasn't supposed to come off.

I too think the rear panel must be removed. There are detailed threads on it somewhere in here. I think Dupis is one of ther guys who did this so you might want to contact him. Otherwise if all else fails I can fax you the Crutchfield instructions for the whole truck...those are pretty good.

Been there, done that. You have to take the door panel off. The grill does not come off separately like on the front door.

Yes, I remember that there were instructions for the SCrew as well. It may have been pepatrick that posted them.

If I remember correctly, the two trim pieces above the door panel that flank the window get pried from the top and lift up and out. Pry the window control panel out of the armrest and there are one or two bolts in there. There are 3-4 small bolts at the bottom of the panel. Now the panel should slide up and out.

Anyone- please correct me if I'm wrong! I'll be looking to do this change as well. I've already replaced my fronts with component JL's and will probably go with the Kenwood's for the rears.

Let us know how it works out.

Thanks

I want to thank you all for your responses. Sticker Steve had a great column about polarities for the speakers and somebody else had a great how to guide on removing the rear door on a scab. With both of these guy's helping I was able to take care fo the task in about an hour. I removed all four speakers and replaced with Pioneer 3-way speakers. Sounds much better than the factory. Now I am wanting to put an amp in but I think I will have to visit the shop for this, but the sound is pretty good now.
