Auto Climate control question

My A/C comes on every time I put the Auto Climate control on, even if it is cold out. Anyone else experiencing this?

Bluedart: I posted a similar question today as well, so there is at least two of us out there. Hopefully someone in the know can clear it up for us....

It is on to dry the cabin air and keep the windows from fogging. If you don't like it, press the a/c button to shut it off.

Thanks for the reply.

Does the compressor cycle on/off as needed to maintain the "automatic" settings or is the compressor always on when the A/C indicator is on? If I turn the A/C off, does that override all of the the automatic settings? In other words, if I want cool outside air without A/C, do I have to be in "manual" mode? I have a '94 TBird with auto climate control... if the A/C is off, the vent fan will gradually increase speed to cool down without A/C.

This is not a big deal... just want to understand how it works. Thanks.

I believe the compressor kicks on & off depending on what the CPU tells it. And once you press the a/c button off, you've just lowered the effectiveness of the ETAC since it can't dry the air. The system will always pull in outside air unless YOU tell it to recirculate. The behavior should be very similar to your T-Bird.

If the outside temp is below 36 F degrees the a/c light will not be on and the compressor will not run.It will run in defrost but the light will not be on.

Great... thanks. When I drove it this morning, I just left it on auto and let it do its thing... it was very comfortable on a wet and humid morning.
