Westin ultimate bull bar, bigsherm??

Just wondering how you like your bull bar. I'm looking at getting the black one for my truck, but I'm courious to know if it will rub against the bumper and stuff up front. Did you do the install yourself or have it done?

Of course anyone else that can comment on this issue, please do so! Thanks.

BULL BAR

I bought the westin bull bar for my xlt f150 2004,, it fits perfectly and does not rub at all on the vinyl skirt on the bottom of the truck,, got alot of compliments on it,, give you a tip though,, buy the stainless steel one,, chrome plated,, i had two other trucks that i put the black bars on,, all rusted within 5 yrs and had to keep painting them,, for the $100 more the stainless is worth it
I also too the skid plate off the bar,,two bolts on bottom,, don't need plugs as they are under the truck

I love my bull bar. The finish on the stainless is great. If you want the black one, check with westin and see what kind of warranty it comes with. The stainless I believe has a lifetime warranty on the finish, I don't see why they could not offer this for the black one as well. Intalling the bar was easy. It may help to have a buddy around to help out. It should take about an hour and a half to get the bar done. Putting the lights on was a little more difficult. Also, I you plan on keeping the skid plate on like I did, order the licsence plate relocation kit and keep your original front plate mount. They can be used together for a nice finished look if you need a front plate. Let me know if I can answer any more questions for you. Lookin' forward to seeing your truck!

Thanks guys, given the color scheme of my truck I have to order the black one. If I went with chrome it would totally clash with my truck as the only thing on my truck that looks chrome is the wheels. But thanks for the heads up about painting it, if it'll last 5 years thats all I need.

So I can remove the westin skid plate? I'm not to thrilled about the lazer cut "westin" logo on the skid plate anyways. If I remove the skid plate will I still need to relocate my tag?

Thanks again for the advice

You probably would not need to move the plate if you take off the skid plate (I hear you on the westin logo.) You can always order the relocator kit later if you decide to move the tag up. Did you say you were going to paint the bar? I'm not sure what kind of finish the black one has on it but if your going to paint it, you may want to look into powdercoating it, it is a stronger finish than paint and looks the same. Also, I had to take off my tow hooks to put the bull bar on. I hear there is some other way to mount it in which you don't have to do it but the directions only gave me one option.

I checked with the site that I got mine from and (you probably already know this) the black on is already powdercoated black and is paintable. It comes with the 5 year warrantee. Here is the site. I heard some others were able to find it a little cheaper on other sites so you may want to shop around, these guys do have great customer service though.

Thanks Bigsherm. I'm just ordering the black bull bar because I've got the FX4 package and I'm very picky about everything matching on my truck. I've got a black toolbox, black tubular running boards so the only thing that would match would be the black bull bar. Someone else said it would fade out and stuff after a few years, but if Westin warranties it for 5 years thats plenty because I probably won't have the truck much over 4 years.

I ordered my Westin Ultimate Bull Bar today from Carolina Classic Trucks along with the tag relocator. Very nice people as they matched a price I had found online with out any questions. It should be here early next week so I hope to have it installed before next weekend. I'll post some pics of my completed work. I've got a few pics of my truck in my gallarey now, but nothing impressive. I've also got the Commander in the ashtray like yours.

They have these on ebay all day long, the chrome and the black. I just bought the chrome a couple of days ago. Waiting for it to get here. $345 with shipping. I've seen the black for $250.

Bigsherm, when I saw yours I knew I had to take the plunge. I also stole your steering wheel cover. It took a couple of gorillas to get it on but it matched the interior perfectly for $9. You got one nice truck!

Ultramaxer21,
The Bull Bar looks great. I've had a lot of compliments also. I've got the FX4 Dark Shadow Grey and went with the chrome plated stainless steel. I've had too many problems with RUST in powder coated carbon steel bars. Of course I live on the HUMID Gulf Coast. The powder coat doesn't get to the inside. Maybe you can get the Chrome anodized or a shop that does "black" chrome? I've been thinking about this Black Chrome since I agree that the Chrome Bar on a FX4 sets it off differently.
But the bottom line is no rust to deal with.

jaguar63,

Fill me in about this "black chrome" you're talking about. I like the idea, but just need more info. I've already placed my order for the black bar so it may be to late to actually learn about "black chrome" but none the less I'd like to hear about it. On your FX4 do you have the front end leveling kit? I've been wondering if the bull bar will look ok with out the leveling kit. Reason being, each time I've got myself talked into getting the Daystar kit I read a post where someone is having trouble with the kit. I can't wait until my bar gets here though because by the pictures I've seen so far it really adds a degree of "toughness" to the front end of the FX4 (as well as the Larait Bigsherm!)

The rebate depends on the reseller on ebay. Sometimes they'll keep the rebate for themselves and ship the item without the barcode.

This the cheapest I've found them so far

Ultramaxer21,
Black Chrome is very interesting. I have several electric guitars with Black Chrome hardware. Check out www.techplate.com/black_chrome.htm or www.chromeservices.com as an examples of platers. There may be a plater near you that performs black chrome. It's very good looking and I'm checking into it here locally. You could plate the less expensive carbon steel and have good corrosion resistance as well. If the carbon steel is first plated with copper, then nickle, the "black chrome" will hold up indefinitely with proper care as with standard chrome plating. Hope this helps.
