Moonroof Problem (Won't Stop)

Anybody had a problem with their moonroof not knowing where to stop when closing or knowing how far to open ? When I open the moonroof on my Lariet SCREW, it only goes about halfway back then stops. When I hit the button to open it more, it moves another two inches, but does not open all the way. I understand it is supposed to open about 3/4 to comfort position, then retract all the way the 2nd time the button is pressed, but for some reason it's only opening halfway. When I hold the button down to close it, rather than closing and stopping, it closes then continues to flip up the back in the moonroof position. If I then hit the button once to close the moonroof, the moonroof closes and the windown slides back to the halfway open position again. It's almost like there is a sensor that keeps track of the position and that sensor is messed up. Up until last weekend it was working fine. (I've had it since Sept and used the moonroof often with no problem), however, last weekend I pulled into the garage and was daydreaming and thought I had hit the power slider to close it but instead had hit the moonroof open button. While it was in the process of sliding open, I turned off the key and opened the door. When the door opened, the moonroof stopped, and I think that's when the problem started. I put the key back in and closed the moonroof which was halfway open and that's the first time I noticed it. If anybody else has seen this, I could use some advice, and beware - don't open your door if the moonroof is in the process of opening.

12,000 Miles & this is the first problem - What an awesome machine !

Sounds like a quick trip to the dealer might solve your problem, like you said, a sensor or something might just need to be reset. Good luck, RV

That's part of the problem when you take a perfectly good truck and cut a hole in the roof. Just my personnel opinion.

The moonroof is the best option offered in the F-150

OK - I got it figured out. There is a position sensor in the motor. It got confused, but there is a reset procedure that is used in cases like this....

1) Push & hold open button. Roof Opens to comfort position
2) Push again & roof opens all the way.
3) Push again & hold button for 10 seconds. Window opens a little further.
4) Hold button to close - it will slide forward all the way closed, continue holding it, and moonroof will pop up, then will close
5) Reset complete.

A minor inconvenience for the pleasure a moonroof brings. I'll never go back to a plain old boring roof !
