I had a '98 F-150 XLT Regular Cab Styleside that was two years old when I lost traction on a turn and went broadside into a telephone pole just behind the driver's side of the cab. It bent the frame and cracked the rear alloy wheel on that side after bending the rear axle. There was other damage so I was sure it was totaled but was shocked that the local Ford dealer said he could fix it and he did. The damage was almost $8,000 and it ran fine after that. I think if it were a few more years older the insurance co. may have totaled it but not a two year old truck.

Nick,

You'll have to call the kid's insurance company I guess to find out. In NYS, the insurance company was only required to cover an "economy car", but his insurance company (Geico) gave me the "compact car" (one up) at no extra charge. I ended up b*tching and moaning until they gave me a pretty good daily rate on an S10. Some of it still had to come out of my pocket, but nothing I could do except sue the other kid for damages and expenses.

Nick that sucks and I can emapthize. I drove a 2002 M3 off the bmw lot and got nailed - I had 5 miles on the car! total damage was 12500. My story is not a happy one. The car was NEVER the same. The guy that hit me had good insurance and in addition to paying for everything, rental car and all. I had them also pay me for and additional 10000 in accident depreciation. In other words, if someone were to research your vehicle the accident would show up and in that situation it is common for them to deduct the damage from their offer price.

I sold the car about a year later because it was never the same. I hope it works out for you better than it did for me.

Tim
