Sat radios
Sat radios
I dont know if this the correct forum or not but it seems to come up alot, especially when folks are describing their rides. So I want to ask about the Sat radios, like XM Commander, which looks like it was made to fit in the 04 F150 ashtray, and any other brands out there.
Are they really that good or should I say worthwhile to have?? I live in the Philly PA area so my travels are pretty much in the "I-95 corridor"(Wash, DC to Boston, MA) area. Which means radio reception is not a problem for me.
If you were the salesperson, what would be your key selling points for me??
Thanks!!!

it seems that several people here have XM, but from what i have heard--i havent really researched anything though--i would rather have Sirus
Sirus, again, from what i have heard has a bunch of sports stations--which i think would be great! plus all the obvious music stations
however, i have not heard anyone who has it installed in their f150--so how it fits/or not fits in the ashtray or wherever could be an issue

You can check out what they both play at their websites.

I got XM because I found out they have a bluegrass channel. Now I have bluegrass available (the real thing) 24/7 everywhere I go.
I believe sirius also has a bluegrass channel but xm was cheaper and still is.

BTW, Ive had XM for about 2 years now and I decided to listen to SIRIUS through thier website. IMHO, If you want alot more variety and good music, SIRIUS has it. They are much better and Ive been trying to find someone around my area that has it, but thats kinda hard right now.
i resemble that remark
hey fordabbits--i live in those deep woods of alabama and hate bluegrass--sure wish they would pave some roads down here though so i could actually drive this new truck
i vote xm commander--atached is a picture of it in the ashtray--hope this helps

I've got the XM Commander and it fits perfectly in the 04 F150 ashtray. Several people on this forum (myself included) have it installed there. I think it's pretty awesome. THe only problem I have is trying to figure out which station to listen to. Tons of channels and more coming each month. I don't know anything about Sirius, though. I thought the XM Commander looked better and I liked the fit in the ashtray option. Just close the ashtray and no one would even know you had one.
Well I have the Sirius tuner on my Kenwood head unit. The head unit controls the tuner, no need to find a place to mount a controller. I love the Sirius, if you go on a long trip you can listen to your favorite station all the way there and back. No station hunting. You have 101 stations to choose from at this time, 61 different music stations and 40 sports news and entertainment stations. Here are a couple of pics:

Grayflare,
Hows that Head Unit working for you? I'm wanting to add one to my truck once I can afford it.
As far as the post I'm leaning toward the Serius because their programming offers more channels I like to listen too.

Plus, the XM Commander does fit nicely in the ashtray and is an easy way to unlock a whole new world of music without the cheesy commercials.
I'll be honest, I think both are a complete waste of money for ME! However, I just installed the XM commander in my FX4's ashtray. I was dead set against ever paying a monthly fee to listen to the radio, no matter if it was commercial free or if they offered a ton of variety. To me it didn't seem worth it, but an impulse buy got the best of me.
I crawled around this forum and FTE for about a month before my truck arrived and each time I saw someone posting a pic of the XM commander in their ashtray I would stare at it for hours (LOL) until the point I said to myself, "I only live once, why not get something unique to add a touch of personality to my truck". So off I went and bought the XM commander. I haven't listend to anything but XM and occasionally a CD since I installed it not once have I switched back to FM or AM.
The only reason I went with XM was because of the commander and it's almost factory apearance in our 2004 F150's with flow through consoles.

Went with XM...
Sirius is currently making a play for more sports, but you will have to pay extra to get them and Sirius seems to be in a financial problem - largely due to GM driving implementation of Sat radio (XM in their cars) and Ford not adding their sat radio (Sirius) to theirs. I mean - for god sake - you get XM in a Chevy Cavalier, but you can't get Sirius in a Lincoln, Land Rover, or a Jag - GET WITH IT FORD!
Make sure you think Sirius will be around in two years before you buy, both XM and Sirius are Nasdaq traded.

dunivina,
So far Im still loving this head unit, it is great and easy to use once you learn it. There are more stations than you can listen to in a year. But once you find the ones you like and program them in you are set, easy as pie. I highly recommend the Sirius and the Kenwood head unit.
