i want the look of two pipes coming out the back--i want a low rumble for the sound--but i don't want to be waking up any neighbors--so i came to this group to learn about different exhaust--and now i'm confused-

so what do i need--flowmaster--borla--magnaflow--

Well Ive got the Borla and love it. Sounds great and not too loud. But Im sure owners of other brands are going to say the same thing. If you have a chance to listen to any of them you should, going at this without hearing and comparing is at best a gamble. If you want sound and quality you cant go wrong with Borla. It is T-304 stainless steel, easy installation, you dont have to relocate the spare, looks great and has a million mile warranty. Heres a pic of my truck with the Borla split rear:

I back Grayflare. I love the Borla and purchased it off of Grayflare's recommendation. He is 100% right. I love the sound when you JUMP on it and when it is idling. It is NOT obnoxious or overwhelming. It adds just enough roar to let others know you're there without being obtrusive.

You can't go wrong, IMO.

 

Well, the Flowmaster and Magnaflow guys will chime in soon. But until then, I took the writings and recommendations of both grayflare and YellowFX4SCrew before getting my Borla. I love it! It's an expensive setup at $555 (that's ALL the expense you'll be out). Yellow's soundbite and pics of mine are in my gallery linked below. The Borla kit comes complete ... ready to install. It's also all stainless steel with the best warranty.

For the less offensive Flowmaster sound (soundbites), you may want to look at the Big Block II 70 Series. You'll have to get a local muffler shop to handle all the piping. If you want chrome tips, that'll be extra. You'll also have to pay them labor and applicable taxes. Flowmaster now has kits on their site for a little more than the Borla. But, they're not SS and you'll have to pay S&H. Oh, and it's their American Thunder version ... too loud for what you want. Feel free to search for "f-150" on their web site.

Magnaflow ... don't have any specifics. Use the following SEARCH to read about it. To the best of my knowledge, Magnaflow doesn't even have a dual rear exit setup yet.

 

here comes flowmasters I got the super 40 and I like it. I would think what ever one you pick will sound and look good.

Borla, magnaflow, flowmast, american thunder, gibson...these are all good quality systems that will give you a deep rumble and can have any tips in various locations. Most of these manufacturers make several types of mufflers to taylor the sound to your need. Try the soundbites on the manufactures website or ask people you see on the road what they have. Remember, the sound also is effected by the motor, catalytic converters etc, so unless its on a 04 f150 with the same motor it might sound a little different. I know alot of people on the exhuast forum really like the magnaflows for understated low rumble sound. I went with flowmaster 40 series because it was louder.

 

I wanted the dual out setup for the looks. That was until my exhaust builder told me I would loose torque and horsepower. He came with quite a reputation for building quality performance exhaust systems. He sells Magnaflow and Borla. Anyway he bulit me a custom job with 3" mandrel bent SS tubing, with dual in, single out using a 22" Magnaflow muffler and rolled 15 degree tip. Looks cool, sounds great, no drone and you cannot hear it idle, but boy you can sure hear it when you step on it. I feel a definite increase in horsepower and get up and go!
