Thumbs up UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE!

In ALL FAIRNESS to Airaid - I read a thread that said if you modify your '04 intake the PCM needs to be re-calibrated. You recalibrate it by disconnecting the battery for a sufficient period of time yo drain the memory - I helped the process by leaving the parking lights on. Three hours later, I reconnected the battery and fired up the engine. (BTW, I had not tried this) I allowed the engine to idle for 15 minutes. The thread claims the PCM is recalibrating itself for the current "conditions", i.e. the new intake. After fifteen minutes of idle - NO MORE LITE! I have driven the truck at high and low power settings with no recurrence of the dreaded "check engine soon" light! (I probably just jinxed my a$$) Here's hoping this continues to be the solution - if the light stays out, I will let you know!

kenng,

That's good to hear. I'm surprised they don't recommend disconnecting the battery during install as par of the instructions that come with the intake.

Now it's time to change your sig line (it currently says:Airaid Intake System With an "Emissions Light").

Is there something different with the FX4? I installed the Airaid intake on my 04 Lariat and do not have this problem. Even though I do not get the light is it a good idea to re-calibrate my PCM?

Thumbs up Final Post On Light

Well, the light has remained OUT! Yesterday I ran her hard on the highway and crawled her through a historic cemetery - NO LIGHT! Interestingly, I had disconnected the battery for long periods in the past, but had not idled the engine afterwards... go figure! This seems to be the solution - after you have confirmed the tube is installed correctly on the throttle throat.

I had the same problem with mine- check engine lights came on after installing the airaid. I called Airaid and one of the reps told me to make sure you use the small screws that came with the Airaid for the MAFS not the Ford Factory ones that are currently on the MAFS.

Tha factory ones are to long and can leave a small gap where air can get in causing the lean problems. I also disconected the batt for an hour or so.

Almost 800 miles and no more check engine lights...

Well I finally had the same problem as most who have installed an aftermarket intake. I installed my Airaid at about 3000 miles and never had a problem till this morning. I currently have 4200 miles so I cleared the PCM by disconnecting the battery and let it sit for an hour. I then ran at idle for about 15 minutes and then took it for a drive. The engine light is not longer illuminated so I think that fixed it. Time will tell. This message board sure is great and thanks to everyone who posts there ideas and experiances. It sure helps all of us. Lets keep it up!

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on this purchase.

It seems the bugs have been cleaned up pretty well at this point, agree?

I saw Troyer has it for $259, is that a fair price?

Ya or Na

That is a good price. I had to take mine off and reinstall to make sure the seal around the intake was good. My service engine light kept coming back on. I also shimmed the "L" bracket to force the intake down to make a good seal. As long as you do exactly what the instructions tell you and you make sure the seal is good you will like this intake. Im not sure on the performance claims but it sure looks and sounds great.

Thanks, how loud is it during acceleration and cruising speeds?

yeah, noise? and what about mileage (mpg) numbers, any increase? Have you guys kept track of mpg since installing this?

I had the K&N FIPK kit on my Sport Trac 4.0 V6. Didn't notice much difference except for all the noise it made. Had for a couple of months and then sold it...couldn't take the noise anymore. I had intakes on my import cars, and no problems at all, but on that V6, it sounded like crap.

I have not really seen much of an increase in mileage. The sound on acceleration is awesome and it quiets down at cruise. Between the intake and the Flowmaster Super 40 exhaust it sounds great.
