Wheel Locks & Milage (dual subject post)
Wheel Locks & Milage (dual subject post)
Has anyone bought/installed the McGard part number 24024 wheel locks for your truck? I did and they have the right threads, but the flange/flared portion of the wheel lock is smaller than the stock lug nuts so they recess a little more than the stock nuts. They do appear to contact the wheel flared area completely and do their job, but they just looked a little far in to me. I guess that's the way they are. Is that the way it is on yours?...look ok? They don't bottom out or anything.
Also, for the milage...I have 2,000 miles on it now (5.4L 4x4 SuperCab) and I just checked my milage 'by hand' the first time. I traveled 442.2 miles and filled up with 32.1 gallons (35.7 gallon tank). That turns out to be 13.775 mile per gallon. I hope it gets better over time (since the sticker says 14 city/18 highway). This was maybe 60% highway at 75/80mph and 40% city/suburbs driving (mostly suburbs, no stop-n-go city driving).

Mileage
The problem with the "sticker" is that is a rating estimate for the engine / transmission combo (says so in the fine print on the sticker). It does not take into account the real world size and weight of this truck. Ever wonder why the regular cab, SCab, and SCrew all have the same rating? No one can convince me that a Regular Cab short bed will have the same actual mileage as a loaded SCrew or a SCab with the 8' bed and the heavy payload package! I'm afraid that even with all hiway that my SCab will never quite live up to the "potential" (15 city/19 hiway) that the 4x2 is rated. (note the only difference allowed is for the 4x4 which are all rated at 14 & 18 mpg)
FYI:
I have a SCAB XLT/ 4.6; 4X2.
I average 14.6 - 19.4.
Sunday I did a 300 mile trip 70% Freeway, and 30% country roads and averaged 19.2 mpg.
I was running about 70-75 mph on the Hiway.
I try to keep it light on the pedal, and generally take it easy.
Gas is about $2.00 up here.
