Exclamation Windshield Distortion- help!

I took delivery of a 2004 XLT 4x4 Screw 3/31/04 after trading in my 02. The windshield had terrible distortions across the whole "field of view."

-Dealer replaced windshield today 4/2, with Ford OEM windshield (with F150 badge), it's better but still distorted in the "field of view."

The dealer will replace it with another, but I'm reluctant to with 2 previous bad w/s's. I've had 2 F150's since 1997 and had zero problems with either. Oh, my 02 was an Scab, I've got a baby on the way and need room for a carseat.

????
ATTN: 2004 F150 owners that had the same issue resolved...

where was your 2004 built? date?

Was the non-distorted windshield an OEM model or aftermarket?
If OEM, any idea which plant it came from?

Anybody know if Ford tends to do anything about this? TSB?

Is there anything I could tell the dealer they may not already know, to help replace the windshield with an imperfection-free w/s?

Thanks a ton,
Jeremy

Now i know why the dealership gave out a 30 pack of Bud-Light with every F-150 sold, after a few of those, my windsheild was clear as a button.
I have read a handful of windsheild distortion posts. Don't think its as bad as a TSB tho. Mine was fine. (mfg'd. 7/03)

Two distorted windshields in a row=luck of the draw. A 3rd one is not likely. Go for it. Other threads have reported success.

Mine also has this, but I have tint up front and the dealer will say that it is the tint's fault or something.

Thanks for the responses so far. I forgot to add my build date is 01/04. I had 8 people test drive my new screwd-up pickup today. All but 1 said they couldn't drive it like that for more than a few minutes.

Why not just look through the windshield before you let them put it in?

Okay, sure it's possible to get a second bad windshield, but why in the heck would a dealer allow it to go back to the customer that way? You can't tell me they didn't notice it when they installed it. That just won't fly. I hate to think that some dealers out there will just try to see what they can get away with. It gives every dealership a bad name.

I think they think I'm crazy, not sure if they can see it. I am going to try all the F-150's on the lot. If one of those windshields are better, either swap w/s's with my truck or trade trucks.

I too have this problem. My original windshield was pretty good, but picked up a stone, and had to have it replaced. The replacement was a OEM with the F150 logo(called the third visor), and was so bad it almost made me carsick just driving it. I went back the next day, and of course the tech said "I can't see the problem". They did agree to replace it, the new one is better but not nearly as optically true as the original. I decided I could live with it. They claim that they had the distributor 'look' at it before it was delivered, (yea right).

anyway, seems that there is a quality problem. I figure I'll just deal with it for a year or so, and get another one later.

Original windshield, terrible distortion. Replacement, hand picked from Visteon, just as bad. The guy who hand picked it must have had that 6 pack of Bud at lunch. Third is perfect, not one area of distortion. At least they didn't break your rearview mirror trying to figure out how to put it back on and say nothing to you. My truck was built in July and in Norfolk.
