Question for JohnAndDar - reflash status

So, is the reflashed control mod installed? Any problems or issues. Does your truck now run like a scalded ape? How are the shifts?

Honestly, not good so far.

The dreaded "service engine soon" light came on yesterday during my first outing driving it.
I brought it into my dealer this morning so that they could see what diagnostic code it was throwing.
(Screwdrive, you, especially, will appreciate this...) They ran down the list of possible causes for the code and said that Ford has reported that some aftermarket oil filters are causing sensor problems because of check valve issues. I just happened to have changed my oil and filter to Amsoil 100 miles before the PCM change. They drained my fresh (and expensive) Amsoil and replaced it with Motorcraft 5W20 and replaced the filter with an FL820S.
They took it for a quick test drive and declare the problem fixed. The light came back on as I drove away from their lot.
The truck actually seems to be running fine. The shift points are firmer, but I've been babying it with the warning light on for fear of doing damage.
I'm waiting to hear back from Anita at Troyer Performance. It's an inconvenience, but I'm confident that they will work to find the issue and get it resolved. I'm not ready to give up yet. I'll keep you posted on the status as things move on, but it looks like I'll have to ship the PCM back, which means I won't have it back until next Wednesday at the earliest.

Some weird codes are getting thrown by this stuff as I understand it....

P1111 - Atmospheric Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction. (High Input)

Then after that...

P0606 - PCM Internal Communication Interrupted

In a loop....... Really does seem like a general program / computer problem. The 5.4L seems to have the additional benefit of intermittently this throwing the PCM into "Fail Safe" mode, as a means to protect itself. As I understand the issue, the 4.6L does not have this feature, so just the irritation of the light is all that is seen as a symptom.

This info came from a person named Clinton at Lakewood Fordland, in the Denver area.

He also claims that Ford expects to be shipping entire new computers to truly fix this problem, he also asserts that they won't start shipping for like another three weeks. He maintains that it is the same problem basically for both motors and the PCM / Programming.

How true is this?? Who knows, but this is what I was told, upon talking to this guy, during my first oil change / service anyways.
I must also state, I am NOT having the issue, but he says many others are having the issue.

OUCH!

The check valve in the AMSOIL filter should meet / exceed the Ford spec. If you look in an AMSOIL SDF 11 and a Motorcraft FL820s you will see the location of the check valve to be the same I believe - I do not know the pressure limits to involk bypass operation.

In any event, they drained AMSOIL and replaced it with Motorcraft (Conoco) 5W20 and tossed the AMSOIL filter BUT, the light came back on..... I think the boys owe you some cash. They could have at least left the oil alone.

I too trust Troyer will get this resolved becasue his future business with mods for the 5.4 3V depends in it.

You may need to change your name on this board to Trail Blazer, going where none of us have ventured before.

Screwdrive,

Yeah, the service advisor came to me and said that they wanted to change the "filter", and I did not find out about the oil until it was already done. It's frustrating, but I also try to keep things in perspective...if the truck stuff is my biggest problem right now, I'm a fortunate man.
I called the dealer to find out what codes they picked up: P0011 and P0021.
Tomorrow I'll be shipping the PCM out so that they get it on Monday. Hopefully, I'll have it back again on Tuesday. It looks like I get to drive the Windstar this weekend, yippee.

Thanks, but I wouldn't think of depriving you of such a fine and aromatic driving machine.

Sorry Screwdrive,

It's a bit of "inside" joking that started in this thread:
disappointed...

I've got nothing positive or negative to say about the Focus. I've never even looked at one very closely...I don't think I could fit in one.

Sorry for hijacking this thread,

I have nothing bad to say about The Focus other than it's not my truck. It was a loaner (still is BTW) and as such, pretty beat up and smelly...Other than that, seems like a good little car.

Life is good again...

I received my PCM back today. Troyer Performance had already confirmed by phone on Monday that they did discover the reason my SES light came based on the codes I had givem them from the Ford dealer. There was an error in the tuning program that they had to correct.
I just installed my PCM (I'm getting quick with it now) and took my truck for a 20 mile test drive. Everything went great!
I'll be putting it through some more paces tomorrow and if all goes well, I plan on traveling 150+ miles to my parents for the weekend.
I should be able to post my observations regarding shift points, throttle responce, and mileage differences on Sunday night.

Excellent! Did Mike advise specifically what was programmed incorrectly or left out of the reflash?

I spoke with Anita about it. Apparently there was an issue in the programming code itself...something like one filename/reference being used twice in error, so that part of the code had to be edited. A minor correction apparently.
