2004 center console to repl. seat?

I just got a 2004 supercrew with the leather lariat interior. It has the bench seat, the 40-20-40. I never put 3 people in the front seat and would prefer to have some sort of floor console. Has anyone replaced this center section of the seat with a console? Is there an after market replacement that would look good? This has got to be the best truck I have ever owned, however one thing with the screw is the lack of storage in the cab. Jack under one back seat and the boom box woofer under the other

Having an XLT floor console from the Capt. Chair option redone in matching leather is one option. At least, it will just 'snap in' with no modifications (an OEM replacement for the 'snap in' 40-20-40 armrest/seat).

Since the captains chairs and the ones I have are the same that would be an option. You don't have any idea where I could get a picture of the xlt console do you? I checked the ford site and do not see a pic there. I am wondering if it is the same console as another lariat had in it when I bought this truck. I'm talking about the one with the shifter in it.

Projet...unless you're located north of the Arctic Circle, you should be able to drop by a Ford dealer and pick up their big 45-page brochure for all the photos and specs, including the console options. Dallasdave's photo is of the console I mentioned.

Thanks for the picture. That's the first 2004 that I have seen with that console in it. Every other one is the flow thru with the shifter. I printed the picture and am going to the dealer first chance I get.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a bit rusty with my vb skills...
Anyhow projetmech, I can get more pics up if you want. I will put them in my album if you need. I like the console... big enough to hold a couple of six's, and has 4 cup holders, puls two down on the floor of the dash. Also, have you noticed the ones in the doors? 8 total - now why on earth would you need all those?

Console

I also have an XLT with the 40/20/40 and want to change it to the full console, has anyone gone from a 40/20/40 to a full console?? if so how hard was it to do the swap??

found a good price online $164.16 for a complete console

Jack_Screw...just a guess based on good ol' logic, but I would bet that the 40-20-40 armrest/seat can be easily interchanged with the 'full console' since the only difference between an XLT with premium cloth 40-20-40 and the so-called captain's chairs option is the substitution of the 'full console' to the latter configuration (the seats are identical despite the capt. chair nomer). So, the two consoles likely use the same mounting or similar for assembly line ease.

Question How does it come out?

I have the 20 40 20 split seat and read that the center seat lifts up and can be used for storage.... what is the method for getting the seat open to that compartment? thanks guys GG

I just went by the dealer. They had approx 50 F150's. About 30 had the 40/20/40 set up. 19 had the flow thru console and 1 had the gray XLT type that is in the picture posted on this thread. I am going to go by another dealer and see if they have a truck with one in tan to see how it would look in mine. Found it really odd that only 1 truck would have that style console. I'm thinking in tan it would be just what I am looking for.

greggeo...I didn't go back to any threads, but my recall of a post from a firefighter was that the seat/armrest unit can be removed by firmly yanking up on the bottom/front area of the unit. He removed the unit for additional room to place FF equipment between the seats. I haven't checked mine out for removal since I'm not motivated to do that, so I can't confirm the process.

I finally got a chance to go by the parts counter at the ford dealer and showed them the picture that was posted above of the console in the XLT. He did a search and found that the console is available however it had to be ordered in pieces. He added it up real quick and said it should be about $1200.00. I think that option has come to a dead end. I gues I shouldn't have been surprised, the rule of thumb that I have always found is whatever the real or percieved value of the part is, multiply by 10 and there is the dealer's price.

As for pulling up the cushion of the center seat, I pulled and it did not easily come up, like it was meant to be accessed. I am sure if I pulled harder I could have gotten it. That would have been a nice design by Ford if they had made some storage under there for items not frequently used. I wouldn't be surprised if the japs have done it on the titan or tundra.
