Air Conditioner - How cold is normal?

I haven't seen any posts on this. How cold is the AC supposed to feel in the new F-150s? I've used mine a couple of times now and it doesn't seem to get very cool. Even in Max AC mode, it blows like the ****ens but doesn't get as cool as I thought it would. What are others experiences with the F-150 AC.

Over here on the east coast (Georgia) I've experianced a few warm days (~82F). The A/C in my FX4 Scab doesn't seem to be as cold as I think it should. This is after the truck has sat in the sun all morning and the cab has gotten pretty warm. After about 20 minutes going down the road it seems to finally get the large volume of warm air in the cab cooled down. But not enough to make me "cold" and I would think with the temp only being in the low 80's max A/C should literaly freeze me out of the truck.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I typically do. During hot months I'll start with just regular A/C and the windows down. My reason for this is to exhuast the cab of hot air, then roll the windows up and run with regualr A/C for a few miles, then switch to Max A/C. If I'm correct Max A/C just recirculates the cab air, so if you're recirculating HOT air to start with wouldn't it take longer to cool the cab?

I was thinking about someone else's post that lives in TX and the A/C has never worked on his. It was about 75 a few days ago so I tried mine out to see what happens. On the little Cavalier we have, it will get ice cold. On my new truck, it throws out plenty of air, but it never seemed to cool down that much even on recirculate. I didn't drive it, I just tried it in my driveway. I'm hoping it does better this summer when I really need it. I imagine if it's like this on everyone else's truck and it doesn't naturally get better, Ford will see loads and loads of F-150's in the shop with A/C complaints.

Here in Columbia, SC, we have pretty hot humid days. I purchased my 2004 FX4 back in Sept 2003, and the A/C works well, considering it uses the new R-134 and not the old R-12. It does take a few minutes to cool down. It does help to evacuate the hot air by opening the windows for a few minutes when you first get in.

My FX4 Screw doesn't seem to get as cold as my 96 extended cab Ranger. I realize that the cab on my 150 is bigger but...
In the ranger the cab was like a icebox with the setting on A/C (not Max) and the fan on low. I had the ranger for 8 years and never had to have the A/C recharged!!

I am not sure when R-134 replaced R-12 therefore I don't know which one my ranger had.

I must say though it seems getting cooler from when I first bought the truck. I hope so, north carolina summers are usually bad.

Mine doesn't seem as cold as quickly as my previous vehicles (R12). I put a thermometer in the outlet vent this weekend and watched as I drove. It seemed to blow 50 degree air fairly quickly and then after time got down to low 40s. I have been told that the 40-42 degree range is as low as you can go without freezing up the evaporator on extended drives. I attribute some of the slower cooldown to the fact I have a SuperCrew with a large interior volume.

Mine seems to get plenty cold. We haven't had a day yet that was hot enough to be able to leave it on very long without getting too cold.

I don't have the auto climate control. Could this make a difference?

I think they switched R-12 to R-134 in early 90's..R-12 was available 18 mos or so ago for about 50 bucks a #...might be impossible to get these days....

Mine sucks too!! Its just not very cold. It hasn't got really hot yet, so if you are having problems with it now, just wait until June, July and August. Yeaks!!!

So far I am dissappointed with the A/C also. Since there are a number of posts on here concerning the A/C in the '04 I'm going to have to conclude that its not just my imagination.

We've only had one really hot day here in So CAL since I took delivery of my '04 SCAB. It hit the low 90's a few days ago. I was running the A/C and was not as comfortable as I should have been.

This is my 4th Ford truck. In the previous 3 rigs I would start the A/C blower on 4 and gradually back it down to 1 or 2 even on a hot day in the 90s. (Were talking non-climate control A/C system here.)

I'm not sure what to make of this. Did Ford modify the A/C system in the '04? If so why? Ford always had good if not above average climate systems. Whats with this?

I traded in my 01 F-150 Scab for my 04 F-150 Scab, the 01 air conditioner defineatly got colder that this one.

Trust me when I tell you this. You can't say wether or not the a/c is as cold as your previous car or truck until you put a thermometer on it. You have to look at the temp difference between return and supply air. R134A will not get as cold as R12 and even if you could get R12 it wouldn't do you any good unless you wanted to pull the R134A freon out of your truck, change all seals and the compressor, then pull a vacuum and weigh in the correct amount of over priced R12. If you have a Supercrew or Supercab pick up it is going to take a little longer to cool it off because of all the air that has to be cooled down. Don't forget FORD added more cubic feet of space to all of the new body style trucks.

Hint... Leave your climate control switch on vent when your not in the truck it allows air to circulate in the truck.

Mind you I'm not talking about how long it takes to cool the interior, or letting the hot air out the windows first to improve efficiency. The air coming out the vents just isn't that cold.

I'm gonna put an A/C thermometer to it this weekend. If I don't get a good temp differential back to the dealership it goes!
