F150 Is great Except for NO AC
I really like my new truck a lot. Now have about 1,200 miles. So far none of the problems anyone else has had, except one big one.
No Air Conditioner and in Houston this is driving me mad, and has already taken a lot of days. It came not working and is now 3 weeks old. Just got the first payment notice too!
The dealer will get it all day Tuesday, and who knows maybe all day Wed too? If it is not fixed this week, then I will be demanding a new truck.

I'm sure your dealer will be able to fix your A/C pretty quick, it's not rocket science. I'm just jealous you live where it's warm enough to use A/C!

You are absolutely right. It is not rocket science. And the local dealer closet to my house could not get their "idot" tech to fix it either.
I have already had some serious discussions with the original selling dealer which is a long way away. Even took 6 hours off last Friday just to talk to them in person about it. They were "too busy" to fix it then, even though I had pre-arranged twice to schedule the fix!!!!!
My feeling is it is one or two freon leaks, and serious contamination inside the system, both moisture and/or trash, maybe metal particles or something.
As far as I am concerned this fourth trip to the dealer will be the last one.
I have noticed 2 or 3 times that it takes a LOOOOONG time for the air to get really cold. It's not just while sitting still, but even at 65+ MPH it is not really cold. I figured I might need to break it in, but at 4,000 miles, it's still the same. I'll tell them about it before my next oil change...before 5,000 miles.

HoustonPerson, That's too bad about your dealer(s). You would think that out of three dealers, some one could figure the problem out. Best of luck, I hope you get it sorted out soon.

Its the same with mine. The A/C in my 2001 SCAB used to freeze me out (and I live in So CA). This one reminds me of the A/C i had a million years ago in my '88 Mustang GT. The old mustang was fine around the coast in the summer. But take it to Palm Springs? Forget it.
Whats up with this? Did they put a different A/C system in the '04? What was in there was fine dammit.

My a/c works, but it's not very cold air. I may have to get it looked at soon, because it's about to ge hot here in LA

I'm at 2000 miles now so not too much longer until I use the coupon for the free 3000 mile oil change and I'll mention the A/C to the service writer.
Guys, I will let you know how it turns out. Sometimes they say they can fix it, but when they cant they say nothing is wrong; yeah right - it don't work!
Anyway, when I was at the dealer's last Friday, they got the keys to a Black Lariat sitting the sun. Had about 2,000 miles on it, saleman's car. The service manager started the engine, and the original driver had it set on 74. It was about 79 outside that day. Within 30 seconds or so, it was puttin out cold air.
Mine on the other hand only would put out heat sitting right next to it set on 74, unless you ran it down to 60 or 65.
Last Saturday, there was no AC, on Sunday it work about 70% of the time; but of course like always if it was set on 60 to 67, it was only 79 to 82 outside. Monday it was completely putting out only heat again. I had it set on 60, and it would just barely cool, and the outside temp was 75 to 79.

Mine seemed to work fine (although I only used it a couple times) until they replaced the instrument cluster last week (scratch on the cover). Now I got nothin'. What would the instrument cluster have to do with the AC not working?
Anyway, into the shop tomorrow AM for the fourth time in less than one month ( I got it new on 3/4).
I'm embarrassed to explain to people at work why I have to keep taking this brand new $36,000 truck to the shop every week.

Ok, got it out of the shop late yesterday and turned in the Chevy loaner car. Ford dealer provides Chevy's for loaners, they need something reliable LOL
They replaced two O-rings at the front condensor. They said several have come in with "nicked" O-rings and about 4 to 8 weeks after the truck is made it losses most of the freon.
The results:
Well in two days, it does work a good deal better, but still no real cigar. It is good enough that I can live with it.
If it is 80 to 90 outside. I still have to set it too about 67 or 68 to stay cool. As I have said in previous posts, Ford does not use real Solar Glass (I dont care what is says on the glass, it's a lie); therefore you still get a ton of heat through the windshield, and front side windows.
The real test should come as the months get hotter, and just see if it stays together. Even though other F150's still cool a little better then mine, they all seem to be pretty sorry.
The service department's own report said it was puttin out 46 degrees on a 85 degree day. Toyotas and Hondas would put out about 36 degress, AND they use real "Solar Glass". If Toyota and Honda can do that for $25,000 you would think Ford could at $41,000
Also had the vibration damper installed, and have already driven on the roads that would nearly throw my truck off the pavement. It is a 100% success, now it does finally ride and drive better then other trucks.

I don't remember the details exactly, but I thought I read here a while back about a few guys having to either have the head unit on the heat/ac replaced or a reflash of the PCM to correct a faulty internal temp sensor (only on the Lariats with the climate control) fault.
Is there anyway to override the climate control on the Lariats and just manually control the AC (i.e: good old MAX AC)? Might be a way to rule out the compressor/condenser circuit and rule in a fault somwehere with the sensing circuit.
