Gas cap ?
Gas cap ?
Ok, it's a small and simple question but I need to know. Putting gas in for the second time yesterday and noticed something. After I unscrewed the gas cap I noticed the metal quarter sized flap, ususlly at the opening (opens and closes as you put the pump in your truck) was not there, just an opening. Question is, should it have one? If it does where did it go (doubt you can answer that one) Could it have fallen off and fell in the tank? If so what could it do? If nothing else how about whatever small screw or spring it is attached with, I am sure that fell in too? What do you guys think?
The flap is to control tank emissions for those vehicles that don't have a negative pressure control as does the '04. You'll discover that a 'service' light will appear on your dash if the gas cap seal ever fails or some jerk at the gas station doesn't tighten the gas cap properly after a fill-up. The first time this happens, the unexperienced usually end up paying Ford mucho $$ for a simple fix.
