Talk me into an F150...
I think that $1295 market adjustment is worth a drive to the one dealer someone suggested to you. What you can and should do is goto www.kbb.com and build your truck as you want it. It'll give you invoice sticker and what people on average are paying for the truck.
I've got the XLT Supercab and I love it, 2wd 4.6. Only problem I can see is the mpg's as suggested by other replies.
As for the options, backup sensor is a good one, although I didn't know about it, the power pedals, a limited slip axle, tow package and for the cost, I would definately go with the power rear sliding window.
Again, go to that site, build your vehicle and see if it'll work for you. If you can be patient, order it, you'll get a better deal that way. Since you mentioned May, you could probably go order now, it looks as if the average wait is about 10 weeks, that'll give you time to sell. I paid $90 over invoice and I'm sure there are a lot of guys out here that paid way more than that under invoice.
Good Luck in your choice and enjoy.

I can't speak for your area, but I would imagine that it's similar to the laws in Canada.
A "market adjustment" is a way to get around MSRP. Basically the laws state that you always pay the lower of 2 prices indicated on a sticker. This is why you have an MSRP and then advertising states that "dealer may sell for less"
It's a grey area, but generally, I would call it illegal. Ask the dealer for the paperwork to prove that there is some type of market adjustment that they need to pass on. If not, it's illegal markup.
tj4ndirish - Thanks for the reminder on kbb.com. I hadn't thought to look there.
I ran through a quick check, and after adding the following to the XLT SuperCab package:
=$28,938 (invoice) incl dest. chg.
Plus - no tax in Oregon!
How much does everyone really think I could save with a factory order? Seems like with the somewhat limited selection of options (and I'm flexible on some of them), wouldn't a dealer be more inclined to work a deal on inventory he has on hand?

I'm dusting off this old thread because it's getting very close to "go" time. I expect that I'll be getting a new truck within a month. I haven't seen any forum rule that prohibits speaking about a specific dealer, so I'm wondering if there are any Portland area members that have had any good/bad experiences with either Damerow or Landmark.

OK - you won't have to do much selling. I've pretty much made up my mind that I'll be trading in the Explorer this summer, and I love the look of the new F150.
I think I want an XLT 4x4 SuperCab. This will be my primary vehicle (the wife has on '02 Sebring LXi). I won't be towing anything heavy. I'd like a nicer interior.
It seems like a lot of folks on this board are ordering theirs from the factory. My only factory order experience was less than satisfactory, plus I'm very impatient.
What options should I insist on, and what should I avoid? What other questions should I be asking?
Thanks in advance, Ladies and Gents!

That Help?
Just make sure you order what you think you'll want in the long run. For example, I thought there would be a chance I'd like the reverse sensing system. It would be a royal pain or more expensive to add something like this later...or not add at all maybe. So I got it on mine. I love it. Same with limited slip rear end. Sure, you can replace it later if you don't get it in the beginning, but why fuss with it if? Stuff like the radio can be replaced easily after purchase...so I stayed with the stock system on that. I'd rather have a custom radio, etc later on anyway.
Although I've lived in the area for over 30 years, I've had no experience with either of the two PDX dealers you mentioned (other than shopping their inventory and talking with sales personnel). My recommendations were offered earlier in this thread. IMO, price is paramount...anything over invoice is too much. You can have your vehicle serviced at any dealer of choice after the purchase.
If you're looking for coolness, I'll restate what I said in another thread. I saw a Silver S-Cab Flare Side FX4 on the road recently. It looked so damn cool. If I was younger and single I would have probably gone with something like that.
However, I was going to get an XLT originally. But then after all my options, I realized that it was pretty close to the same price as a standard FX4. So if you plan to option out the XLT, you might want to bump up to FX4. I am 100% happy that I canceled my XLT and re-ordered an FX4.

Well, I am going truck shopping tomorrow. I don't have the patience to do a factory order, so I'll find something on the lot somewhere. I did a factory order years ago, and it was not a pleasant experience for me. There is a silver XLT on the lot at Damerow Ford that looks pretty dang close to what I want:

That's a dealer profit of approx. $1,990 including the kickback from the factory. That deal could be beat by $500, but perhaps that's unimportant. The definition of Fair Market Value is 'what a willing buyer is willing to pay to a willing seller in an arms-length transaction'.
I just got a quote from Landmark Ford on a nicely equipped XLT SCAB that is stickered at $33,915, that they will sell for $27,259. That's sounds pretty good to me. I've also had several people at my office say they've had good experiences with Landmark.
