Went to Dyno today

I ran my truck at the dyno today. Its a 2004 supercrew larait 4x2 5.4 3V bone stock. 3:55 gear every op. minus 4x4-heated seats-reverse sense.

3,122 miles on it. has had an oil change.

237.5 HP

284.4 Torque

I was happy with the results.

Thanks David

Well not to shabby for bone stock, about 26% loss to the rear wheels, about the same for the torque. What ever happened to the guy that had some mod's done,he was supposed to go back to the dyno?

That was Daneo2. I haven't seen any posts from him in a while.

I got 231 hp at the tires when I took mine to the dyno last week.

What kind of dyno did you goto?

Mine was a Dyno Jet and because of the F-150 has a speed limiter and RPM limiter (according to the guy running the dyno) the HP numbers are not accurate since you have to do the pulls in 2nd gear.

When you did the runs was your truck in drive or 2nd gear?

When I did it in drive the truck cuts power to the engine at 4k RPM and when you do it in second it cuts off power at 5k RPM.

The guy at the shop seemed to know what he was talking about and he was pretty sure that if we removed the rev/speed limiter the truck would do around 245HP....

anyone know anymore on this subject who could shed some light??

I know that when you do a run on the dyno, you want it in final direct drive, or in other words, the engine and transmission are turning the same rpm's(1:1 drive ratio) I would have thought this could have been accomplished buy simply turning the O.D. off, but when you punch the gas, the tranny would want to downshift, causing a spike in the measurment, which in some cases can be inaccurate. So that is why you have to sample in 2nd gear. As far as the rev limiter, this may be able to be adjusted with a microtuner. I think Superchips is coming out with one later in the year, but not 100% sure.

Hope this helps.

thanks

That is exactly what the guy running the dyno said. I had not considered getting the Superchips tuner before that, but after having talked to him he gave me enough confidence that I could at least take off the rev/speed limiters after only 5 minutes with the unit.

Hopefully Superchips puts their new F-150 unit out sooner than later!

Mine did the same thing. It was a dynojet at a place in clearwater florida. The operators said the same thing that the speed limiter would come into play therefore we had to do the pulls in second gear. My thinking is that the power would show more since it is gear reduced?? but they said that the readings would show less power in second gear.

Either way they we're great. The truck almost didn't fit onto the lift. It sounded pretty good to for being stock.

I love this truck,no problems(knock on wood) as of yet. besides it did go into fail safe once last week and i'm sure they will have a fix real fast. I installed that damper that was on the TSB for vibrations. I didnt notice a big difference but then again I think my truck rides pretty great. The only thing I wish for are Michellins..............David

hmm, on my bike, and any other bike, dynojet operators always run it in 4th gear.

i dunno. maybe on the 150 they need to do it in 2nd.?

remember guys, all dynos are easily manipulated to read whatever they want. on a bike you can get more hp out of the same bike by tightening the chain or cranking the tiedowns really tight on the back of the bike. remember to really show accurate numbers, mention the temp, humidity and elevation you are at when you do a dyno run. i do believe that dyno jet brand dynos are fairly close to the same for readings. use them as a baseline for before and after modifications to see if you add hp and tq..
