Borla installed

I installed my Borla dual rear exhaust last night and all I can say is WOW!! It took longer than I expected, but I was so anxious to get it installed that I started on it at 10pm last night and finished up around 1am (Not too bad for doing the whole thing by myself). I drove about 500 miles today and wanted to see how it would do. There is definitely a acceleration increase, but it is still too early to tell mpg. The sound is awesome. Throaty, but not obnoxious, when you get on it and silent when cruising. No droning either.

Probably the hardest part was getting off the old exhaust because of those cursed grommets hangers. The little bastards wouldn't let go!! I had to man handle the things. WD-40 didn't work too good, it dried to quickly. I would suggest some sort of silicone based spray to lube them up.

Funny, I didn't realize how big the old muffler was until it landed on my chest after the grommets let go .

What do you guys suggest I do with the old exhaust anyway? I thought I would hold on to it a while to make sure everything was good with the Borla. Sooner or later the wife is going to get tired of seeing it sit on the garage floor near her side of the garage.

I will take some pics tomorrow maybe even some sound if I can figure out the digital camera. I have to get back under there anyway to straighten up the pipes. I'm a perfectionist about things like that.

I have heard nothing but good so far from people who have put on borla. If someone could make a recording of the sound, that would be great

Good to hear, congrats on the install. I'm torn between a Flowmaster 50 like I had on the 'O1 SuperCrew I just sold and the Borla system.

As to your suggestion for the old muffler, perhaps conversion to a boat anchor?

Glad to hear you really like the Borla system. I installed the same system on my truck a little while back and still love the sound of it. Just remember you will be enjoying it for another 999,500 miles.

Grayflare, you helped influence me. I know the Borla costs more than the Magna and Flowmaster, but s***, it's a $35K+ truck, why stop now. . No really, I have heard Flowmasters and I think they are a little loud more my taste.

What did you do with your old exhaust? Zach had a good idea, but I don't have a boat.

I will try finger ********** the digital camera to see if I can get some sound for other people considering the Borla.

Got my Borla exhaust installed last night, also!

It took me, start to finish, 1 hour and 3 minutes to remove and install new system. I was cheating, though, and took my truck to work and put it up on a professional alighnment lift and was able to walk right under it and remove old exhause in less than 3 minutes.

Anyway, WELL worth the $. Thanx for the info Grayflare. It doesn't get noticed unless I get on it which is what I like. I like that it isn't loud at cruising speed. I still have the quietness of the truck.

I will post pics tomorrow. (oh, also put on the RETRAX yesterday) I will post pics of that as well. My camera will take a video where you can hear the exhaust but how does one bring that into this forum? Any Clues???

1 hour 3 minutes, eh? Yeah, you did cheat. You missed out on the fun. After crawling out/under the truck about a hundred times, whacking the muffler rearward with a rubber mallet and getting that monster out from under the truck, I feel like I went to the gym and worked out for about 3 hours.

Damn grommets, I guess they are doing their job and it was well worth it. I just think of it as time spent getting to know my new vehicle.

No idea on getting that sound on to this forum. I was wondering how to do that myself.

Hey hey hey...Whats all this finger F'in the camera without me. hahaha

Great choice for an exhaust. After seeing grayflares, I knew thats the way I was goin. With any VW I've owned in the past I always bought the techtonics exhaust with the borla rear muffler. Great sounding product. Performance without the loudness.
Its also great to hear you dont have to take off your spare tire. Get some pics and and sound bites up ASAP!!!

After the shackles thats my next mod. Then I prolly need to lay off and save some cash. OR NOT!!!! muahahahahahaha

To all, glad I could help. I knew how I felt about this system, Im just glad you all feel the same. It is a great exhaust, with a fantastic warranty. Btw my old stock SS exhaust is being tested for rust resistance by a higher power right now. Its behind my work shop, Ill keep you posted on the results.

Can any of y'all who have removed the stock exhaust system confirm which OEM parts are stainless steel per Ford's brochure that states "major components" are SS...what components is Ford referring to?

It really doesnt matter what parts are and which are not. Im sure Ford didnt spend a lot of money getting the SS. Which means it is an inferior grade. It probably is SS just not high grade SS, which may be why some people have had theirs starting to rust. Just my .02
