Unhappy Engine Surge

Would like to know if any one else has had this problem.
I had the dealer replace the PCM (Power Control Module) in January at only 300 miles because the truck would not run. Since then, I have only put another 1000 miles on it. The truck has run fine until recently. I have noticed that when I go from a standing start and apply a steady throttle that the engine surges ahead almost as if I am goosing the engine. I had another 2004 F150 owner stop me to compare our trucks and he said his does the same thing. Has anyone experienced the problem ? I am a bit reluctant to go to the dealer cause the last time they had it for 12 days before they figured the PCM thing out.

Mine does this as well. I chalked it up to something with the new drive by wire system. However, the truck doesn't do this every time. It seems to only occur after the truck has been parked for a while and I try to lightly idle from stop.

I have noticed this occasionally. It happens when the engine is cold and I take my foot off of the gas abruptly. There is a momentary surge and then it drops off. It isn't enough of a surge to be considered "sudden acceleration" like the old Audi problem. Once the engine has warmed up it never happens again. I haven't been concerned enough to take it in to the dealer as I assumed it was a normal operating condition.

Mine does the same when it's cold. And usualy only once in a while so don't give it much thought.

"Occaisionally" as I am leaving in the morning and basically idling down the street, if I feather the gas pedal, I'll get repeated short surges. Stops the first time I accelerate normally.
The engine isn't entirely cold.
I let it warm up for as long as it takes me to go back in the house and pour myself a morning cup of road coffee.
Couple of minutes?

Anyone find a fix for this? There is talk on another board about a slip yoke, and needing teflon grease for lubrication, but I am not sure if it is the same problem...

I too have this, and would like to fix it...

Thanks
Don

My truck also surges during light gas pedal pressure at low speeds. This is both before and after the PCM was flashed, but I still believe that it's a fuel delivery issue. If I goose the throttle a bit, it seems to stop. Only happens on occassion - maybe a couple times a month.

Same problem

I have the same problem noted above. It happens when the engine is both hot and cold and mostly happens just after I have started it.

Is there a fix?

my truck had an issue similiar to what is described here. It had a surging or rolling idle and would sometimes die at stoplights. No error codes found. Fix was to reflash PCM. Module Part # 407A-12A650-AAA. Build date 11/10/2003 SCrew, Kansas City. No problems since.

Mine did the same thing. I had a reflash done to fix a problem with lag and a rough idle that came up suddenly, the surging was fixed as well. Take it back to the dealer, tell them what's happening and get the reflash done. Your not alone with this problem so they have to make it right.
