04 Engine breaking in suggestions

Folks,

My truck will be coming in within the next week or two.
Does anyone have some suggestions on how I should break in that engine. (V8 5.4L Triton)

I've heard lots of different suggestions....

Run it in very slow without hard execleration....

Or give it a few good hard windouts in all the gears....

What are your suggestions????

Break in...

I have always been told to drive it normal, try to not exceed 55mph for the first 500 miles and vary your speed (dont drive at the same speed for long periods of time).

I would take it home, open the book and see what Fords claims on breakin...and go from there.

Dave

When I bought mine the dealer told me there are no longer break in period requirements. Because of the way the engines are built they are ready to drive right out the door. Or at least thats the dealers input.

Even if the dealer is right about there are no longer break in period requirements, I'm still playing it safe and following the guidelines in the owner's manual. I've got about 850 miles on it now, and I haven't taken it over 3000 rpm. Ocassionally varying speed on the freeway too.

Probably wouldn't tow anything until 500 mile's or so,but would drive the way you are going to run it.

My dealer told me the same thing. No special break in required.

I heard the computer is in a diagnostic mode for a while, tuning the engine according to your driving style. Don't drive like your grandma all the time. Otherwise your truck may (note: may) not perform as well as it would if you drove normally. Could just be heresay though.

I agree, besides, when your nice new truck comes to the dealer with your keys they typically "test drive" vehicles, and I am sure they kept your truck under 3000 rpms.
Would you?

Im with Dusty1. I broke mine in the way the owners manual said to. That way no one can say I didnt follow the proper proceedure should anything ever happen. After that you can drive it normally. By that I mean however you drive normally. (Drive it like you stole it.)

I got mine in September came home hooked up my 20' Baja and trailered it about 200 Miles at 80-85MPH and I have not had one problem with my FX4 in 14,000 Miles Look at My Gallery speedometer Pic. I have driven every Ford that I have ever owned hard and lots of miles and i never have problems. So I say get in it and stomp on it
