I too today experienced the steering wheel vibration btwn 60
and 75 mph. It's the first time it's happened so i'm sort of
perplexed. I've taken it to the Cape twice already this year and
that problem was non existant ( i even ran on cruise at 70 mph
many times so i know it was ok at that speed ' til today. )
However, today is the first time i ran at highway speeds
since putting on my soft top tonneau. So i'm wondering how many of you with this vibration have tonneau's. On my two trips
Capeway i had no tonneau.. I will roll it up and try again
( just for curiosity's sake )

I had the vibration, mine turned out to be the driveshaft. My dealers vibration specialist had it barely a day and he rebalanced the tires and then went directly after the DS. I looked under the truck after I got it back and sure enough there is a band clamp on the main driveshaft near the top where it meets the other driveshaft that connects to the tranny. (I have the SCREW and it is a two-piece shaft.) It seems to be 180 degrees opposite of where the weights are at on the bottom of the DS where it connects to the rear axle. Dunno if this will help anyone. But, it sure was nice to get back to being smooth. Mine would vibrate between 20-30 & 40-60mph. During braking it would feel like warped rotors. Once the DS was balanced the braking was fine. Very Weird!

Had the rearend fixed no shutter and the off and on vibration is gone also, I didn't have the shimming in the wheel, just the drive train vibration. All the problems I read on this board are nothing compared to the tranns problems I had with my Dodge Had 30000 miles on that baby 1/2 where behind a tow truck It still makes me sick to think about ,it thousands of dollars out of pocket. There is more to this story but my head ache is back

I had the vibration issue and my dealer did everything according to the TSB. The rear end was replaced yesterday and the dealer said that the vibration was fixed and was no longer present. I believe the problem is somewhere in the rear end with these trucks. Earlier on the dealer even installed a new drive shaft and shim kit to the ring and pionion and that didn't work.

AC Issue

I'll chime in on the AC hiss....

Chances are that it is the Orfice Tube in the inlet side of the evap core. Usually if you hear it at all it will be right when you turn the key off. If you hear it while the vehicle is running, most likely it is from high head pressure or debris in the screen of the inlet to the orfice tube. High head pressures are generally caused by high heat, long idlling etc. Debris in the screen is most likely being caused by excessive wear and tear on the compressor.

In any case, the dealership should be able to verify what is going on........

I have a question, I just recently changed the wheels on my truck and mysteriously the vibe that I once had at around 60-65 is now gone, is anyone having the vibe problem with aftermarket wheels??

aaatire,

Did you have your original set of wheels and tire balance to try to fix your vibration? Did you put original tires on new wheels?

I own a wheel and tire shop here in CA, I have tried new tires, balanced about 50 different times in all types of different ways, believe me, it is not a balance issue. I put on centerline 18x9's with a Nitto 325/65-18(33x13) and have not had any more vibe problems.

Angry Shudder in rear end also

I too have the shudder from the rear end during take off from a stop. 2004 F150 FX4.

The first time the truck was in last summer, the dealer told me that Ford was aware of the problem and awaiting a fix. They would call me. Never did.

Next time they said there was a bulletin regarding it. They installed teflon grease in the yoke of the drive shaft. It did not change it. This was last week.

Called dealer again. They recommended same procedure again. Is this a time delaying tool to get the truck out of warranty so they don't have to mess with it? Still awaiting a call back.

Am I reading the possibly replacing the clutch pack would solve the problem? How best to get my dealership to get this done?

Thanks

Steering/nibble solution

Hey guys, I think there is a solution! I found on another site that a mechanic has had the same problem and his solution was to adjust the preload on the rack itself. There is a large nut like washer on the front of the rack directly inline with the steering column. Tighten is all the way down then back it off a quarter turn. I've got a appointment for mine tomorrow with the dealer to see if this works. Anyone had any experince with this or know what I am talking about!???

Smile Preload tighten

Hi-

This will take care of the shimmy/shake in the steering wheel. They did it to mine last August after I finally convinced them, and it stopped the steering wheel shake immediately! The bad part was that I had lived with this for almost 11 months , and after already replacing the rack under the original TSB. At least one issue was resolved.

JeffSS,

I have a 2005 Lariat Super Cab and hear the same A/C hissing noise. It seems like it cycles every 10-15 seconds. I know it is coming from the condenser inside the truck under the passenger side glove box. I took mine to the dealership when I noticed that it was not going away and they told me that it was just the coolant running through something and that it was perfectly ok. They also said there was nothing that could be done to it besides trying to mask the sound.

Did you find out anything that can be done to this? I would not think that a brand new truck would make this sound. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
