'04 Screw 4X4, 4.6 vs. 5.4 milage?

Selling my '01 Gen 3 XLT 4X4 Screw and ordering an '04 XLT 4X4 Screw. Anyone have any factual info regarding gas milage differences between the two motors? I rarely tow anything and being 50-something I'm not particularly in a hurry to go anywhere fast. Would like some factual info about the mileage that can be expected from these two engines. The 5.4 in my '01 has been good but in a time of $2.00 gal. gas, an extra couple MPGs would be good.

I promise you there is not much difference!! I have a '04 screw FX4 with the 5.4 and an '03 expy with the 4.6 and I get better gas mileage in the truck. The expy is a 2WD also!!! I've been getting about 16 all around driving. The truck is so heavy, so I would never get the 4.6. Good luck

Mileage on a new one

Currently I have about 540 miles, and its about 10 days old. I am somewhere in the use of my second tank of gas.

On the hi-way between 65 to 75 I aveage about 18mpg. My overall throughout Houston is 15.5 to 16. I am impressed, it is not yet fully broke in, has the heavier LT tires, moonroof and few other options.

Funny thing about testing the hi-way mileage, when you hit that "reset" button on the dash and you are on level smooth pavement, it will say 20 to 21.5 mpg. But as soon as you have gone up and down a couple of hills it settles in on 18mpg.

Throughout the heaviest stop and go traffic in town, it has never gone below 14mpg!

90% of the time, with my mixed use driving it says 15.5 to 16 mpg.

I got this truck to pull my 23' Malibu Wakesetter. I should have it by next week. Then we will see what kind of mileage it gets!
