Real World Gas Mileage
Real World Gas Mileage
From some of you F150 5.4 V8 4WD owners, what is your real world gas mileage? I'm in the market seriously for a new pickup. I don't expect econ class car mileage but want to get away fm
11 mpg that I've been suffering for 14 yrs with my Dodge W250
4WD. Thanks Ray

I've almost got 600 miles on the odometer so far, and I fill up every weekend. My wife drives a 26 mile round trip to work. Her commute is 13 miles down hill, then 13 miles back up in the evening. The first to fills averaged 12.5 and 12.7 mpg. Today's fill came up with a 13.2. It's getting better every week.
After break-in, I am getting about 14.2 pretty consistently with mostly city driving. Thats running oxygenated fuel which is required along the front range during winter. My experience has been about .5 mpg less with it than the summer fuels.
14 for mostly in town; 15-16 in normal traffic coming to work; 17-18 on the highway.
If the hints on the board are correct, wait for the '05 with 5 speed automatic.
Hints also include a more powerful 4.6 - but if they do that won't they also increase the power of the 5.4?

At 5200 miles, mixed driving:
Avg mpg since purchase: 14.37
Best tank mpg: 16.65
Worst tank mpg: 12.35
Mileage seems to be improving slightly over the past couple of fill-ups (I think the warmer weather helps).

I'm getting 13.3 mpg with 1300 miles on the truck now. That is based on almost no highway miles and all short trips, with each trip ending with a half mile trip up a dirt/mud road to my house. Dragging a 6000 lb truck uphill is a killer on gas mileage. Chances are that everyone else, with more normal circumstances, will see better mileage.
