Difference b/t Low-High OEM bugshield?

Can anyone tell me the difference between the low profile and high profile bugshields pictured on fordaccessories.com?
No difference that I can tell from the pictures.
Most people seem to be ordering the low profile.
I'd like to be able to get under it for cleaning and waxing.
None are currently on dealer lots I can actually look at.

I can relate to seeing no difference on that website's photos of each. I stared at those 2 pictures for what seemed like hours and could not see a difference. I remember someone saying that the low profile is about 1 inch shorter than the high profile, which I assume is the distance from the front of the hood to the upswept area. I was told by my dealer that the low profile did not look like they were going to deflect anything so they sent them back and now only order the high profile. He had 1 on the lot with the high profile and that convinced me to get it. I installed it myself in about an hour. Check these out:

Hope this helps!

By akaheisman's description, my Ford dealer installed the high profile on my truck. I've had a couple bugs hit my windshield already (we had a mid-60s heat wave in VA). No telling how effective it will be when the bugs are really out in numbers.

I do like the look of the bug shield, and I guess it also doubles as protection for the front of the hood against stone chips.

akaheisman: Thanks for the pics and dealer's advice.
I believe I'll go with the high profile myself.
And looking through your gallery (nice truck) reminds me that I need to order mudflaps too.

low/high

The low makes bugs hit just above your wipers the high puts them square in your field of vision...lol

Ain't that the truth!!

I wasn't sure which one I wanted, so my friendly Ford parts guy got one of each for me. I took them home, slipped each one into place. Since bug shields don't really do much for deflecting bugs, I decided to go with the Lo-Pro, and took the High -Pro back to the dealer.

Both appeared to have the same space between the deflector and hood. There is about 3/4 to 1 inch gap. It's a tight fit. My hand won't fit between the two, but I can push the chamois into the gap and drag it across the hood.

The front bumper was still in good shape!

My wife was alone in the truck. She fractured her C-2 & C-3 vertebrae.

Neil,

I'm very sorry to hear that your wife was hurt. Trucks can always be replaced.

I hope she's on the mend.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. She was one lucky lady that day!

Agreed, trucks can be replaced, and that has been done. For the most part, we like the new 2004 Super Crew, but both of us would prefer tho have the 2001 back. It was a much prettier color.

And as for mending.....We'll find out more March 19th. She may need surgery, maybe not. All in all, she's about 99.5% back to normal.

Now....If the 2001 Super Crew had a HIGH PROFILE BUG DEFLECTOR mounted on the front, do you think the downward force of the air passing over it may have helped hold the truck down on all four wheels??? (joking)
