Overhead Rail System...

Can someone please tell me why the sunglass holder bin is soooo big for a pair of sunglasses. Seems a little over done, in my opinion. I only have the sunglasses bin and that's all I plan to have. I would like to see a shorter rail system (and smaller bins) as an option, maybe only long enough to hold one bin and then the rails would terminate ant the end of the bin. Now I have one bin and a few feet of unused rail just hanging out and it kinda looks funny. Just my opinion.

Well I don't know about you but my girlfriend is always in my truck and the sunglass holder just happens to fit two pairs in there. I agree with you on the railing. I want to take my down and see how it's attached. If it's not going to ruin the headliner I think I can cut it and reattach it just for the length I need. Might even be able to put the endcaps back on the cut piece. I'll check it out and let you know.

You have to pull the headliner down or totally out to remove the rails. They are held in from behind the liner with spring clips (the inside of the rail has a void for the clips). That would leave you with holes in the liner and that's not a good thing. There really is no good option with this problem.

Just think, the rails on the Screws are longer than the Scabs.

Hopefully this thread or others that I have commented in helps explain the rail better and the potential modules to fill up that space

Rambunctions...

I would be interested in the homelink module.

Also the one thing I really miss on the F150 vs my old Dodge Dakota was the whole trip computer thing in the overhead area...really wish Ford had put it up there and/or made it an option on the FX4...I have trouble reading it in the cluster as it is now.

Any chance of some module that would tie into the existing Ford supplied temperature/direction sensors, and put it up in the overhead display?

we make the homelink visor for the lariat for the 04 F150
you could order one from service, route some wires up the pillar and hook it up pretty easy.

it might be a little bit before we do the homelink module, unless it is with the Bluetooth hands free phone module because we have homelink for any of the visors we make. but it is on our module list.

regarding comp/temp. I couldn't agree with you more. integrated into the dash saved some money for ford, but most people (including passengers obviously) seem to prefer it in the overhead. On the list too, but we are trying to bang out some bigger hitters first, especially satellite radio.

thanks for the interest

Hey Rambunctious,

I programmed the Homelink today to work with my garage door opener. Worked like a charm. I thought someone said it could also work with my X10 system in the house, but I might have been dreaming...

Sure would be nice for that rail system to have integrated power, so when you snap on a module, it instantly has power.

How about a mount for my CB radio? Yup, still have a Cobra 148GTL in the Ranger. Cell phones don't call you and tell you where the "smoky bears" are hiding!

sunglass holder

as far as the sunglass holder you can buy a insert from the parts department that fits in the overhead and it will hold two pair. or you can get the metro kit like i did it comes with two more bins the sunglass holder a cellphone holder insert and a cd case that fit in the new bins for 99.00 and all of the inserts have f-150 on them.

I don't know this to be fact, but have heard someone on one of these boards was successful with their x10

coming soon to a truck near you

CB holder, you from Texas??? had someone suggest one of them there cowboy hats holders too!!! i like those ideas, if the rat race ever slows, I might have some of these unique ideas prototyped.

the input is appreciated

No, I'm not from Texas. I'm a sailor living in Chesapeake VA. 21 years in the Navy and counting.

If I think of any other items I'd like to see on the rail, I'll let you know. Thanks for the info about X10. Since X10 doesn't have a rolling code I wasn't sure if it would work, but I'll give it a try.
