window tint

I want to public thank the town cop that followed me to my house to order me to "fix my tint problem". You have made my small town a safer place. Now that my front 2 windows are factory green again the world can sleep a bit easier.

Say what? How dark did you have them tinted? Are tinted windows banned in New England?

laws are different in each state I think. I live in Ca usa and I am not allowed any tent on side windows. just the back sides and the back windows. but I hate the glare so I got the sides done a lite tent and I am going to get the front done the same as the sides I think i got 33% on the sides.

I think if you get an eye dr to say you need tent for your eyes you can get all the windows tented in any state. NOT SURE THOUGH

I feel your pain. It's really lousy that these "two-bit-towns" are having to resort to enforcing window tint laws. I got stopped last year for the same thing, but wasn't followed home, was only gave a warning because I had went to school with the cop that stopped me (guess he felt like an idiot pulling over one of his old buddies). Wouldn't being followed home to ensure you removed the tint be grounds for invasion of privacy? I would honestly check into that. I don't think they would have the legal right to do that given the circumstances.

To solve my problem, I just found an alternate route around the town that stopped me for my windows. Haven't had a problem since and I frequently pass State Troopers.

Well, I had the front two windows tinted to match the back windows, 20%. the law in mass states that the front two windows can't be less than 33%, unless you have a tint waver. tint wavers are only given if you have a docor validate that you have either photophobia or photo somthing or other ( a medical condition that makes people extreamly sensitive to light). I would never fake an illness for any reason so thats out of the question. maybe if I move some day to another town, one where cops have better things to do, I'll try my luck again but until then I guess its factory green for me.

Like so many have already said though, most cops dont care, unless they are trying really hard to **** you off, or you are a ghetto banger in suburbia. I had limo tint all the way around (no windshield) in Upstate NY for 6 years and never had a problem. Tint the way you want and worst case scenario, you have to pull it off.

EddyG, I agree tint like you want, but I wouldn't think the worst case scenerio would be to just peel it off.

My friend also go stopped a few weeks after I did for window tint. Unlike me, he did not realize his windows were illegal. He got the pleasure of not only peeling it off standing on the side of the road with the cop watching, put also was required to pay $75 bucks for having the cop point out that his windows were illegal (a ticket).

I think if you would look at it from the officer's stand point you may see it a little different. How you like to approach a vehicle with the windows tinted where you could not see any movement inside only to be greeted by the business end of a widow maker (gun)?

If you were put in that position how you would feel about window tint?

Sure I agree the law is one step closer to communism however we all have to suffer at times due to someone else’s stupidity.

Right, I agree with the cop stand point, but I also like my windows tinted In that case though you shouldnt even tint the back window since thats the best view a cop has. Several family members that are cops always said if the window was up, the gun was out, so roll your window down before they walk up.
I cant believe he made him tear the tint off right there. Again I really think these are extreme cases, just like a busted headlight they will most likely ask you to fix it (if they even bother you). Glad you live in Atlanta Mumford, nice place and of course you know a ghetto banger when you see one.

LOL, Mumford I am sure you do! Now they will be looking at you too with that sweet new ride, out of jealousy not criminal intent. In DC the cops are pretty chill about tint, it seems they only pull you over for window tint as an excuse to get a closer look at a suspicious ride. So keep the guns and hookers inside the vehicle at all times!

I had a buddy a few years ago get pulled over for tint. The cop gave him a razor and told him either he peels it off right then and there or he would have it towed for illegal tint. I think the tint laws are ridiculous. Exspecially in a state like Texas were we bake at 105 degrees for 4 months straight.

I just got back from the tint shop and I can proudly say that the front windows match nicely with the back now. The tint was 20%. When I talked to the tint guy he said I shouldnt have a problem with this truck since the cops tend to target a certain "type" of car for that kind of thing. The legal limit here is 35 in the front which is pretty close to 20 (looked that way in the shop). I can understand why 5% would get fined, you cant see through that at all! For those of you thinking of tinting the trucks windows, 20 is a really good match (from the outside looking in) and adds a lot more continuity to the truck. But dont tint it if you are going to Sh*&t your pants everytime a cop drives by.
