Noobish Question

I was under my '04 last night and noticed an assembly up under the bed just aft of the rear differential and forward of the spare tire. Anyone know what this is? Thanks!

I checked mine at lunch and don't see what you are talking about.

Does it have wires and a clock on it wrapped in black electrical tape?

I think what your are talking about is a load sensing brake distribution sensor. The more of a load you have in your truck will determine the amount of brake force required to the rear brakes.

Hehe, it is supposed to be there, it is in the Ford brochure where they show the picture of the bare frame. It might be a bit hard for you to see without climbing under the truck, it is above the spare tire!

Thanks, that makes sense based on its location and the wiring going to it!

Ah, I see, that would explain the trail of flames behind the truck...

I was laying under my new 150 over the weekend, and saw what I think you are referring to. I wondered what it was, then got busy messing with something else and forgot about it.

I read your post tonight and decided it was time to insert my trusty 2004 F-150 Service CD into the computer and take a look at the fuel and emissions system pictures.

That small tank looking thing tucked up in front of the fuel tank next to the cross member is the Evaporative Emission Canister and the the Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid.
