Reverse sensing system glitch?

Today as I was backing out of my driveway, my reverse sensing system started beeping. I stopped my truck and got out just to make sure there was nothing behind me and, of course, there wasn't. It kept doing this for about an hour whenever I put the truck in reverse. Now it seems to be working just fine again. I had my truck washed yesterday so I can't imagine if that would be related unless water got into it somehow. Also, it was very warm today so not sure if the hot sun had any affect.

Anybody experience something like this? I was going to report it to my dealer but since it stopped, not sure if it's worth the trouble since they would probably tell me that they can't reproduce it.

The rear sensors will pick up drop offs of the driveway and curbs behind the vehicle. Also when the sensing system gets wet it turns off automatically so it does not short out. Hope this helps

Try backing up when you forgot to close the tailgate. The beeping was fast and steady so I thought I was about to hit something then realized I had the tailgate down and was picking that up. Never had it shut off when it was wet but yes it does go off when backing down a sharp hill or ditch.

I had this happen to me after a car wash. It beeped real fast with nothing behind the truck when put in reverse. After an hour or so drying out it went back to normal. It has never happened again so somehow it had to be water in the sensors. Since it 'fixed itself' I never said anything to the dealer.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Same thing happened to mine just after washing my truck. It also went away after it dried up.

Hmmm, my reverse sensing system seems to be on the blink again. Had plenty of time to dry from my car wash on Saturday. I was backing out of my driveway again today and it started a very fast beep. This never happened prior to Saturday when backing out of my driveway. I'll monitor over the next few days to see if it goes away and report it to my dealer if it doesn't.

bajabenedik,
Do you live on a dirt road? both of my parents have the reverse sensing systems on their vehicles and since they live on a dirt road it is worthless. any dust on the sensors will cause the exact same effect that you are talking about.

it's funny to throw the truck into reverse when it is raining hard. the thing goes nuts. beeping fast, slow, medium, off. it's funny for a second, then it gets annoying...

Nope. I don't live anyway near a dirt road. Maybe I need to clean it off even though it should be clean from the car wash on Sat. I'll try that tonight to see if that fixes it.

I dont think the reverse sensing in these trucks is as effective as some other vehicles.

My company vehicle has reverse sensing and imo it works so much better than my lariat.

'04 Lariat with the same issue here after every car wash. Worse when it's very cold (below freezing) out. Why is this thing affected to the extent it is by water?

Hmmm, after cleaning off my sensors, it seems to be working again. I'll know in a couple of days. I may have got some chrome polish on some of them when I was cleaning my bumper on Saturday.

Lightbulb Beeping

The left rear post column to my garage is about a 45 degree angle from the back bumper and 12 to 14" away. Each morning when I back out it beeps a couple of times till the bumper clears that garage post.

I look at the dash board, looking for things. Don't know if it tells me anything or not, the beeping quits, I forget about it and go on my way.

Yesterday, was the first day I filled up. About 350 miles now. Going down the freeway, it made a few loud beeps. I look at the dash and it tells me low fuel. That is good, because you can not see the fuel guage at all, with the bright sunlight coming in the front window. Beside being very hard to see it is smaller then a postage stamp.

Snow builds up on my sensors, causes a false signal. I'm thinking this is an option I could have done without.
