Got my truck.......
Got my truck.......
It only took three weeks and I got it. The dealership called today and I picked it up.
2004 F-150 XL 4x2
5.4 liter Reg. Cab Shortbed
3.73 limited slip rear end
True Blue
Likes: The handling, ride, cornering, and turning radius are top of the line IMO. The interior(even on the XL model) looks great with many new features. Has plenty of room even in the Regular Cab with the ability to recline the seat.
Dislikes: The power is not what I expected. Dont get me wrong. It has about twice the power of my 98 4.6 liter. Actually, the truck has good acceleration and it has plenty of torque. It is the throttle response that gets me. It is very delayed and unpredictable. Sometimes it hauls ***, sometimes it eases off. I have no idea why, but it does. I know it has the new throttle design this year, but it seems very sluggish at times.
All in all, I love it. It is perfect and even the power can be overlooked due to the outstanding performance and look of the truck.
When I break it in, I will be posting track times for the 1/8 mile and 0 to 60.
As light as the truck is with the 5.4 liter it shouldnt do bad. I did a kind of 1; 1000, 2;1000 time today to 60 mph at about 3/4 throttle and it was in the realm of 8.5 seconds (maybe quicker). So, floored after the break in it should do better.

The fun is just starting! Congrats on your truck. Weren't you the one talking about putting rims and low profile tires on the '04? When? Just curious. I am at the other end of the spectrum...trying to lift the front end and go with bigger tires. Post some pix once you get them.
Enjoy!!

Well, rims...YES!!! Not necessarily low profile tires. I dont want the ride to be crappy. So, I am going with 275's on the 04' which is what Ford recommended to me to avoid wheel rub and so on. I am going with 20" rims. It should look killer.
By the way, did I make a mistake last night? Here is what happened. I was coming back home after getting the wife and I some late night Whataburger and a 2000? S-10 SS pulls up next to me. He has all of these stickers on his back windshield (Flowmaster, Superchips, K&N) and he is revving up the truck and so on. Well, we get going and I dont want to floor the new truck because it hasnt been broken in yet. Well, we get up to about 55 and I am just cruisin along when he revs up again. So, my curiosity gets the best of me and I punched it.
Ummm....say by by to the S-10 SS is all I have to say. My new 04 F-150 took off like a bat out of hell man. I have to say I was impressed. It actually put me in the seat a little bit.
Well, the guy pulls up to me at the next stop sign down the road and asks what I have done to it. I told him nothing and then told him the engine I have in it. He seemed very surprised. Everyone so far thinks it must have a 4.2 in it or the 4.6 at the most. It has these little tires on it and the base XL wheels and it is a Reg bag short bed.
So, there is my first story. I feel bad for laying into it, but it was only for a few seconds. Later guys.
