Odd tranny

Ok, I'm a 2004 noobie, but this is my fifth truck and second ford. I notice that when I take off from a stoplight or stop sign I can actually feel the tranny downshifting through a couple of gears. My last two vehicles were automatics (95 Blazer 4x4 and 96 Tahoe 4x4). I've driven lots of Fords, my folks swear by them. This is the first vehicle where I can actually feel the tranny shifting through the gears at takeoff. Anyone else have feedback?

Thanks in advance!

GM auto transmissions are famously 'seamless'. The wife's Olds is like driving one of the new 'continuously variable' trannys. With that said, the '04 F150 tranny is smoother than my '97 was, so Ford has made some improvements in that respect.
