nitto has the mud grappler for 18 & 20 also Toyo makes some for 18's as well as BF Goodrich which makes a pretty nice mud terrain this year. you can fit 35's in most cases with daystar. Hope this helps

Well why I was asking is the reason when I ordered my 02 fx4 with 17 on it, I wanted some mud tires for it, but no one had any so I ordered some aftermarket 16 and some bfg mudterrains. But I really liked my fx4 rims, then 2 months later they released some mud terrain tires for 17 in alot of different brands, so thats why I was asking, I didnt want to look for some 17 inch rims for mud tires and then in april or may somebody start releasing mud tires for the 18 stock rims

Problem is, most all of the M/T type of tires are geared toward serious offroaders and are wider than what fits on most OEM wheels. Your post was a little confusing first mentioning 18" tire for an '04, then talking about an '02 FX4, but if you are talking about the current 18" OEM wheels, which are 7.5" wide, then you are out of luck for now -- if you decide to follow the tire mfg fitment recommendations (which I would suggest). Several here have posted about running BFG ATs that exceeded recommended wheel width mounting by a full inch. So, while it can be done, it is still not a safe practice IMO.

Bringing us back to 18" MT tires... Currently BFG has MT 37 x 12.5/18 and 35 x 12.5/18 tires, but they require 8.5" of wheel width. Nitto make one Mud Grappler (MT style) in 38 x 15/18. Too big for a Daystar lift and OEM wheels. Toyo has an awesome MT tire in a mongo sized 38 x 15.5/18 that won't work, but they do make 35 x 12.5/18 that the mfg say only need 8.0" of wheel width. So in theory, you could squeeze those tires on OEM rims and if you were willing to do a little trimming, make it work with the Daystar lift... sorta.

If you want to run 35" MT tires, my recommendation, FWIW, would be to install a real lift kit (not just spring spacers), get enough room to allow the suspension to do the truck justice and buy a set of aftermaket wheels that are properly fitted to your tires. Yes, it cost more, but it would be money well spent IMO. Otherwise, go with AT tires no larger than 33" and designed be mounted on 18 x 7.5" rims -- which there currently are none that I know of. Be patient though, the 18" tire offerings should start to get better by years end.

For aftermarket tires, the 17's would be the way to go for now...

Toyo Open Country AT's

285-70R-17 7.5 to 9.5 inch rim 32.76 overall diameter
285-60R-18 8 to 10 inch rim 31.48 overall diameter

BFG All Terrain TA's

285-70-17 7.5 to 9 inch rim 32.8 overall diameter
285-65-18 8 to 10 inch rim 32.8 overall diameter

I know these are AT's instead of MT's, it will give you information on required rim width for certain sizes.

This and a lot more information regarding sizes and specs is available on each manufacturers web site.

Looking through the Interco web site tonight I realized they have what is the first agressive offroad tire I have seen that will properly fit on the OEM 17" wheels (sorry no correctly fitting tires for the 18" OEM wheels yet).

Super Swamper Radial

The SSR LT265/70R17 (32.5" x 10.7") tire is designed to be mounted on a 7" to 9" wide wheel. While these tires are pretty agressive compared to an AT style tire, I could see these tires being an upgrade for an FX4 owner with the 17" OEM rims, and a desire to take their truck off road.

Look around their web site here. Check out the TrXus MT / STS tires coming soon in 18" and 20" sizes.

Why can't they make something like that for the 18's? As soon as I saw that picture I thought "there goes my tax refund"
