Question Screw vs. Scab

I have two trucks coming that I ordered...go figure...They are both black FX4s...one is a screw and one is a scab...options on the two are identical...money and financing not being a factor which one would you get and why?????????

Thanks for any advice....

Scab.

Thats what I got for a couple of reasons.
1. More bed space (4 wheeler, dogs, tool box, etc)
2. I don't use the back seat much***FOR PASSENGERS *** Ha Ha
3. I like having the suicide doors better than a fullsize door for the cab. Easier access to the ext cab. I don't have to walk around a rear door.
4. Neither one fit in my garage, so there's no difference there.

I do like the way the Screw looks, but for the extra couple of grand, I don't need it. If I had kids, or planned on having 2 or more passengers more than I do now, it would be different.

I would definately recommend you drive both more than once and see which one bests suits YOUR needs.

I cast a vote for the Scab also. The bed length on the Screw really hurts it IMO. If you add a toolbox to the Screw you've cut the bed length even more, maybe they'll offer it with a 6.5' bed next year.

Ill vote for the supercab also because of the larger bed size and easier access to the cab.

I went with the Super Crew because of the 4 full doors which is nice for my family. Kinda like a SUV with the back off. Also I like the looks of the Screw over the Scab. I don't haul anything that big very often so bed length was not a big factor. Its primary use is for a family vehicle and hunting.

i also went for the Screw for the four full doors and the look..it just works better for me...i have two boys 9 and 12 and they fit perfect in the back seat with plenty of room for all their dvd players and games they have on trips...the bed size was not an issue because i dont haul alot of stuff in the bed and have a topper on for the dog... when we do vacations and for hunting his kennel fitts great back there..

I'd have to vote for the Screw as well. With a 4 and a 3 year old, by the time you put the cars seats in the Scab their feet are lodged up against the back of the front seats. I guess I should mention I'm 6'.2". Looks like if you have kids, the Screw is the way to go. If I didn't have kids I definitely would have went Scab.

Cheers!

I have a SCab on order. I no longer have kids at home so most of the time no one is riding with us. Also, I have a 5th wheel RV and the SCrew's bed is not long enough for my tool box and the hitch. I really like the way the SCrew looks but it just would not work for me.

I prefer the way the Scab looks vs. four full doors but thats just personal taste.

I don't often carry people in the back seat, but with the 2004 Scab rear seat room being increased 6" over the prior, its pretty usuable space. My son and his girlfriend rode in the back on an 800 miles trip and they said it was quite comfy.

I would say that if you frequently carry people in the back, the Screw is probably the more practical option though.

I like the ability to throw a bed tent on the back for camping, and the 5.5' bed is just too short to work for that.

Screw. I haul dirtbikes and they fit no problem with the back wheel kicked to the side or two straight up with the tail gate down. I've got a trailer for it too so I do hope to get a cap for it. Only 5'9" so I'll be able to sleap back there if I need to. Again at a slight angle.

But, I've got a little boy and a Big Dog so I pretty much gotta have the extra space back there. Fold the one seat up and there's plenty of room for the dog and a seat left over for the kid. Works great.

They both look sweet.

The SCAB

I went with a SuperCab because I like the traditional pickup look, and I rarely carry passengers... If I had a family, I would probably go with a screw.

I love my SuperCab, great ride.... turns heads!

Good Luck.. You'll love it either way!!!

I really think it comes down to passengers do you have them or don't you? 6.5 vs 5.5 box really doesn't make much difference. A sheet of plywood will not fit in either without the tailgate down.

Also I think many people like myself are going from Scabs to SCrews. If you have never had either I guess it would be tough to tell.

I live pretty much downtown Atlanta, so I will not be on the farm too much....

I have an 01 SCrew now and will be ordering a 05 Scab in July. I love my SCrew but with the changes in the new model, the SCrew has lost lots of it's appeal to me.

Things I don't like about the new SCrew back seat;

The back seat folds up, exposing the sub box on the floor. Not very handy for storage and not very comfy for the dog. The old design was much better.

The storage compartments have been removed, so everything has to go in the bed. Now I need to buy a box and reach/climb over a bed that is 2" taller. The times I've needed more bed space has been rare, and I use the bed alot. (I've never needed an additional 2" in bed height) But, with a toolbox in a SCrew there just isn't much room left.

I vote for SCrew mainly because of the easy access into the cab for my family. I don't haul much, and when I do the 5.5' bed seems to be enough.
