Factory Speakers

Anybody know whats in the 04 XLT Extended cab? Are the front and rear doors both 6x8s or are there tweeters in there too. What is the direct replacement? If its already a component system I would like to keep it that way.

They are both 6x8's. The front doors do have cut-outs for components, but may possibly require some modding depending on which speakers you choose. There is a thread isomewhere in here that shows pics Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 components installed in the front doors.

They are 6x8/5x7 cut outs in both front and rear doors. The audiophile I think adds tweeters in the upper door for better sound. I had just the base stereo and added the components later. With the tweeter up in the top of the door it sounds so much better than before. Here is a picture of mine (JL 5 1/4s in factory locations).

Please note that post is incorrect - the non-audiophile 6 disc system only has 4 speakers, two 6x8s in the front and two in the rear

lanceparkhurst. What did you have to do to get just that panel off? I haven't tried to get any of them off, but may want to change the speakers. Thanks.

Ford made it easy for us that upgrade the stereo on this new model. There are just a few plastic clips on the cover holding it on the door panel. I just started at the top a slowly pulled the clips out working down the cover from top to bottom (not much force was needed for mine. If you want I'll post a picture of the back side of the cover so you will know where to pry, let me know. Good luck.

A picture would be nice. That way I can also see what type of clips are used. Thanks.

Look in my gallery. Infinity Kappas in front door. Used 1/4 plastic for adaptor.
