Lowering/Towing 4x4?

Subject pretty much sums it up. I have on order a FX4. I am a total noob when it comes to trucks. Sorry if my questions sound dumb.

Is it possible to lower a 4x4? The only reason im gettin 4x4 is for steep boat ramps and winter driving in a 4x2 sucks.

Also if it is possible to lower. How much will it effect towing. My boat and trailer weigh the most, 3,500 pounds.

I would prefer the ride height of a lighting but dont want my tires rubbin over every bump while im towing.

One last question. Hows the ride of a truck thats been "shackled" down. Does "shackle" mean u actually compress the rear suspension? Is it better to just replace or do you get the same results.

Again sorry if I sound silly with some of my questions. What better place to learn then in a f150 forum though

Hope someone can help me.

Thnx

Please don't tell me you're serious. IMO it is crazy to buy a TRUCK then lower it It is equally confusing to me why somebody would buy a TRUCK and it is not 4x4.

Don't take offense. I was just never able to understand why people do that. I guess if that is what they are most comfortable with though that is what I would do.

Just us a drop hitch in your receiver to get the appropriate height for your trailer. You can find them just about anywhere (even Wallyworld). I've even turned a 2" drop upside down to raise the ball 2" to tow behind an Expidition and a Ford conversion van when the receiver was too low.

chemgod no offense takin. To each his own.

I really really like the new styling of the f150. If it wasnt for the change I would still be borrowing a truck to tow my boat. Only cars I have ever owned have been VW gti's. Just about every year. heh

Nothing against having a super high truck but I cant see myself jumping into a truck every time I have to go somewhere. Also when I think truck, I think "duuuuuuude" . Atleast if I lower it Ill feel more in my comfort zone.

Btw. I didnt know Sea Ray made jet boats. My yamaha is also a jetboat.

Trust us when you get into a truck and drive it everyday, you will feel good that you can see over other cars and farther down traffic. And that high is also a piece of mind when say another truck hits you, his/her bumper wont be at your head but rather at your feet. trucks rock

Ok since last night I did some searching. I came across http://www.ridetech.com/news/default.asp?mode=teaser . Turns out. Yes I can lower my 4x4. And if I use this airbag suspension I wont loose towing/trailering capabilities.

Does anyone have experience with airbag suspension? Duribility?

vToe777,
They used to make them. They no longer do. It is only 15' long and has a 175hp 6cyl. Mercury engine in it. My favorite thing is to take it up to 55mph and then throw it in full throttle reverse. If you then go throttle up you can submarine it as long as you can hold your breath. Doing this required some mods like a bilge capacity of 10,000 gallons/hr.
