tax and registration

hey,
i'm a resident of oklahoma but i'm working in california on temporary assingment. i ordered a truck the 1st week of december and it is supposed to be here next week, now my dealer wants to charge me california tax and give me a ten day pass to leave the state. this sounds good because i would be able to tag it in oklahoma. however, i would also have to pay tax in oklahoma on top of my california tax.

so... i now have to drive to reno in my new truck the 1st day i get it in able to pay tax to the state i reside. my question is does anyone know how to pay oklahoma tax in california without taking delivery out of state?

thanks for any help.

Pop them an e-mail or call them. I am sure they have dealt with this on more than one occassion.

Good Luck!

I don't think you will have to pay tax twice. I am assuming you are talking about paying the sales/excise tax in CA? You only have to pay sales tax once. When you come to OK you will only have to pay for the tag around $100. The sales tax on a new vehicle in OK is 3.25% of the actual selling price, this may be cheaper than CA. Here is a # for a tag agency in Tulsa 918-492-4998. They will be able to answer your ?'s.

Minnesota to California

I have purchased a couple of trucks in Minnesota and brought them to California. The dealer in Mn did not charge me sales tax at all, I was charged at the DMV in Cal when I regstered it.

Too bad you can't buy in Oregon...no sales tax, no personal property tax, $32.50 title fee plus $35.00 for plates (2 years).

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell Reno, Nevada fits into the whole equation? I follow the Oklahoma/California trail but the bread crumbs stop at the CA state line...
