My 2003 is a Lariat with the FX4 package; I really wish they still offered that in 2004. It’s nice having a luxury truck on the inside, and a tough 4X4 on the outside.

I liked the looks of the FX 4 better, better grill up front, liked the dark gray color, and also liked the wheels better---wished I had the heated seats, steering wheel controls, of lariat, but looks and the ruggedness of the FX 4 led me to it

but yes, Last year you could get everything, all options. I hope in 2005 or 2006 they add the FX4 to the Lariat line

i didn't like the grille on the FX4 or the wheels. also, I wanted the EATC, trip and mileage computer, and all the other luxuries of the lariat. plus, I wasn't impressed with the FX4. i could (and did) get almost everything else that the FX4 has on my Lariat except for the "upgraded shocks." The shocks felt the same to me and their ain't no way a stock truck is going to have great shocks anyway, so I went for the Lariat. to each his own. they are all great trucks. I do like the FX4 interior panels over the fake plastic wood in my lariat, that's for sure.

I don't think you'll truly know which way you want to go until you look at several of each model and drive them both.

The differences are subtle and on many points its splitting hairs.

Do what I did. Walk around the lot, look at every truck they have and test drive one of each. One vehicle will stick out in your mind as "yours" and thats the one you buy.

My Lariat Supercrew is on order and should be in mid-March. I chose it mainly because my wife wanted heated seats. I got the 4WD and skid plates, too, but I bought it mainly because it is a SWEET ride! All the options except I got the rear seat DVD instead of the moonroof. I liked the look of the FX4 also, but it boiled down to the one thing for my wife...(insert whip crack here)

I went with the Fx4 because I HATE chrome. So it was either the FX4 or te STX. STX was just waay too cheesy inside, so FX4 it was.

Decide based on preference of style and availible equipment/options. The Lariat 4x4 will get you to the same places as the FX4 with the same ride quality. There is no key off-road equipment exclusive to the FX4. The prior FX4 package was a joke too and didn't add anhthing important to offroad capability.

So, if you have a Lariat 4x4, don't think you do not have a tough truck. It is the same as the FX4 and XLT as far as capability and toughtness.

Qualifier: I assume a comparison of the Lariat with the availible LSD and skid plates.

For me it' Fx4

“For me” The things I liked about the fx4 are the sporty feel you get from the trim like no chrome and the tubular steps, the grill has a mean look and compliments the carved out body panels and as for the interior I like the gauge panel it’s more on the tough side they really catch your eye’s and the black diamond plate trim and floor mats are really a nice touch to the interior this is a great look for the sportsmen type. Mine is loaded up as far as the fx4 goes the only thing I wish it had are heated seats but that’s seasonal and I will have heated seats in the summer time. (They are black) that’s one reason for tinting the front windows as dark as the back windows.

Theirs no question that these truck are no different other than the trim and the Lariat will go the same places the fx4 will go but do you really want the almost white seats when you have mud, blood, etc. on your cloths and boots and I do understand it’s a really nice looking interior but it must get dirty fast. I think the Lariat is like a 4 wheel drive Crown Victoria. On the inside.

Question: You live in Florida. Why in the world does your wife need heated seats?

I chose the FX4 because I liked the gauge set up, rubber floor mats, painted bumpers, zero chrome, lack of fake cheap wood grain, DSG two-tone and the black and silver dash.

I went with FX4 because I don't like wood grain, and I wanted the Audiophile sound system.
