Though my truck is only on order, I went with the moonroof as well.
I really liked the look of the rail inside the truck, but when it came right down to it, I wondered what I would ever use it for? After thinking about it more, and again aside from the look, I felt it would have just been wasted space for me, especially with the sizeable center console space.
My current vehicle (Ford Explorer) has a moonroof as well and I did not want to take a step back either.

Funny thing about those moonroofs. I have one in every car I own. 2003 Lariat, and 00 and 92 Lincolns. But in all these years I have never opened it or even look up that often. I always leave the shade closed because with it with it closed there is allot less wind noise. With that said, I would never buy a Ford or Lincoln Mercury car or light truck without one. Ford does an amazing job with these moonroofs. All three of them are exactly the same, and all work great. AS for aftermarket installed moonroofs.. I would never have one installed aftermarket. Local guys around here can’t cut the roof perfectly and they normally can’t put in the sun shade, with flawless color match. It will never look like the perfect factory install. And I bet aftermarket ones leak. My factory one has never leaked. They tell my little tubes run from the window, back and down around the back window and then to the ground, They carry water away from the moonroof channels.
I was asking b/c before I bought my 04 in Nov., I was testing out Avalanches. I know, I know...
But the Dealers had mentioned that they used local shops for moonroofs, and that it was covered under the warranty. Does anyone know if this holds true with Fords, or would that be a dealer case by case thing? I think I will call and find out...
