low profile bug shield
low profile bug shield
Got the low profile bug shield from Ford. I think it looks really good. The only picture I forgot to take was from the cab perspective. Now you can definitely tell where the front of the hood is! click the pic in the signature to see. I also took the front on picture and photochopped in a billet grille because I wanted to see what it would look like on my truck. Add that to my list of wants!
Quick, fix the link to your pictures. I need to see what this looks like before I buy some other brand.
And ....does this bug deflector stand away from the hood far enough so you can get your hand behind to clean, and is it far enough away from the paint so you don't need those rubber bumpers?
Thanks

I think it's only dark smoke on the availability. It is off the paint to be able to clean but not by much. You'd probably have to run a rag underneath and do a shoe shine approach with a hand on either side of it. (Can't describe it any other way) and the pics work for me. Maybe the gallery was down for a bit or ?
Thanks for the information guys. I was going to go buy a Lund Interceptor today and add it to the pile of things to install, but I think I'll wait and get the Ford deflector.
jeffro7172, the problem was most likely with my computer. Your pics worked just fine this morning. LOOKS GOOD!

Looks good, but doesn't seem like it stands up enough to make an actual difference in deflecting bugs and rocks. Does the Lund stick up further?

I took some pictures from the driver's side so you could gauge the profile a little better. I really like the Ford one (also because it says F-150 on it)
Anyways, hope it helps!

firstimeFord; hopefully someone can step in and answer your question. It is hard to tell just by looking at the pictures and the parts magazines.
Lund also makes a deflector that they call Trident. It looks like it may be pretty effective for tossing the bugs over the top.
Seems like most of the deflectors now days are more for looks and to keep rock chips off of the leading edge of the hood intead of keeping the windshield clean.

Chili, yes it only comes in dark smoke as of now. They may make a clear one later, dont know how much later.
firstimeFord, mine does pretty good keeping bugs off the windshield. The big problem is with the taller shields. It seems there are a lot of people who installed taller shields on their trucks, from different manufacturers, and it caused the hood to vibrate or shake at speed. Most have since went with a low profile and this cured their problems.
Hope this info helps.

hwk79, first you have to remove the front grill. There are 4 bolts on l-brackets, and 6 nuts behind the grill. After removing the grill, sandwich the deflector between the grill and the hood. Reinstall the hardware, then they give you 2 clips that go on the outboard sides of the hood. Once the clips are installed, install 2 phillips head screws into clips through the deflector. This is the Readers Digest version. It is not very hard to do. You only need a 10mm socket and ratchet, and a phillips screwdriver for install.
Grayflare described it perfectly. Go by his instructions instead of the picture instructions that come with it. Tools needed by the instructions: a pencil, and a phillips screwdriver. Apparently you are supposed to take the grill off with your hands and the picture shows it coming off, but they never put that in there. I mean, it's not that hard to figure out once you see it and you know it does, but the instructions in my opinion stink. Good thing we are mechanically inclined eh?
anyway, after looking at it, it's not too expensive and looks really good from the get go.
