Rear Diff Fixed, clutches the problem

I have the 04 F150 Lariat with the 3:73 LSD. The problem started whenever I would turn a fairly sharp corner. I would get a shudder effect throughout the truck, originating from what appeared to be the rear end. The trouble was much worse turning to the left. With only 1300 miles on the truck I brought it in to one of the local Ford dealers to have them look at it. They took my precious truck (which I have yet to make a payment) on the 7th of Feb. I called today (the 11th) to see if it was done and he said it was so I picked it up. When I got home I looked underneath the truck and found that the rear diff cover was scratched really bad. It looked like they played "kick the cover" around the garage for 5 days. I guess I'll paint it this weekend. Anyways, the trouble was the clutch packs on both sides so they ordered me new ones and installed them today. I made the short 5 mile drive back from the dealer and didn't notice any shuddering or vibration. Could it be possible they fixed the rear end right the first time? Wishful thinking.

I'm a diehard Ford fan, I've had them all my life. I had the rear end shudder, bed shake issue, poor gas mileage, and ya the front end sits to low. But the truth of the matter is, the new F150 is probably (IMO) still the best truck you can buy for what it is, a truck. It has great power, looks, great ride quality and a unbelievable interior. For all these guys that are complaining about minor stuff, you will have them even if you own a Bentley.

If there is a Ford tech around I would love to discuss the parts they listed on the inventory. It just looks like they added lube to me.

Thanks for the great columns and info, this site rocks!!!

What was the build date of your truck? Mine is coming this Monday. I am hoping they have incorporated the clutch fix in the later build dates. Thanks.

Love the name since I work for Miller Brewing Co.
My 04 F150 had rear end shudder and they replaced clutch packs and it took care of problem. The Part # 3L1Z-4947AA.
Make sure they give you doc. on repairs.
Hope this helps!
