I always like to park next to the curb as well.

Another good idea is to find a large SUV or truck in the lot, skip a space and park really close to or on the line closest to them. People sometimes will notice the tight fit and poor visibilty (for pulling out) and move on to another space.

Well I paid cash for my truck... is it possible this behavior is related to that? I thinks its a paranoia that happens to the people who really care about keeping that flawless new look as long as possible.... GG

Man do I feel better now. After two years of my wife giving me the evil eye when we have to run from the far end of the parking lot in the rain to avoid parking next to any one I finally meet other normal guys. She will park her Explorer anywhere and get away with it but my truck must have a big magnet under the hood because it attracts other cars like crazy. I've gone two years with out a scratch, ding or dent and will be trading it in a few weeks for my new Lariat Supercab. Somebody mentioned Home Depot. The one by me dosen't have any of those cart return corals in the parking lot so the carts are just left anywhere and the lot is on a hill. I saw a cart going forty miles an hour across the lot on a windy day and plow into the side of a brand new Dakota. I've complained to the manager and he looks at me like I have two heads. Lowes is opening down the street next month and if they have cart returns I'll never go back to Home Depot. If you see a white Lariat way out there in no mans land it's probably mine. Another thing, I get about three miles a week exercise just walking from the truck to the store entrace.

Ive got a few scratches from yes, hunting and going through brush, but this is ridiculous. I parked at Safeway, there werent many cars around so I parked alittle closer than I usually do. I didn't notice this dent till the next morning. Damn I was pissed. Almost 500 dollars to fix too.

Fordabbits, what hit up that high.

I dont have any scratches on mine, but one dent. on the corner of the back bumper. Someone hit it in a parking lot and drove away. I noticed if when I went to wash it later that day.

I have to agree. I've worked at a mall for most of my '98 F-150's life, and I always park waaay down the end of the garage (first floor as it won't make it up to the 2nd, too high). But like someone else said, don't park TOO far away, either.

If you do you'll just call attention to yourself by some punk kids. I just park around the other employee vehicles down there, and things have been fine. Being underneath the garage all day also helps the paint, it's not getting beaten down by the sun all day.

Be careful if you try and park in one of those 'surrounded by poles or concrete' spaces. they are usually barely big enough, and when I did it recently with my '98 (trying to find a good spot for my upcoming '04) I very lightly met with one of the concrete barriers. I didn't notice until I got out to see if I fit, it was JUST enough room so that I couldn't fit a piece of paper between the truck and the pole, but enough to leave a very slight mark.

Heck, even the Mall Security Ford Ranger has barely enough clearance sometimes (green lightbar makes it a bit taller).

I was happy to hear that other people noticed when guys who care about their trucks tend to congregate in the same area in parking lots like Best Buy. I thought I was the only one who would park, go in the store, then come out and find like two more trucks near mine and think, "Wow, that's cool. Let me take a look before I leave." And by the way, if I do go check out another truck, I NEVER lay a hand on it. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but after I've just waxed my truck it really eats at me if someone just rests their hand on my paint, like, what's the big deal? The big deal is the 5 hours I spent washing and waxing today!

Damn, I thought I was the only one so **** about door dings.

I am really lucky at work - we have one parking garage that is designed for oversized SUV's and trucks. My parking spot is against a wall and there is a good five feet between my truck and the yellow line if I put the passenger side close to the wall.

My '98 Dodge 4x4 that I traded in on the '04? I managed to keep that truck completely ding free for 3 years. Then, as if struck by lightning or some really bad karma I got hailed on (BIG hail), had that fixed and 2 months later some a__hole sideswiped me in a shopping center parking lot and took off.

After that I just said screw it and parked it in the first spot I could find. It still didn't have one door ding when I traded it in.

Sometimes I think its just fate.

I don't have any major scratches, but I do have scuffs from the tech who worked on my truck with a zipper fleece and failed to throw a cover over the fender. Same dealership where they failed to put any plastic covering on my seat when they drove it and resulted in a large oil stain on my seat

After taking my truck in this morning to get the wiper fixed and the seat replaced, they happened to break the cowel on the opposite side of the truck which they were working on.

I always tend to pay attention to where I park. When I owned my little altima, someone was purposely scratching my car whenever they walked by it, I'm talking 2-3 a day. It didn't take long for me to find out who did it, but when I did... lets just say they didn't like it so much when the 6'4 380 pound (at the time) blonde bear found them Thank god the little bugger couldn't run very fast! Incase you are all wondering, I have lost about 70 or so pounds so since then and am not the behemoth I was a year ago.
